AIX Unix Engineer

About

We are looking for a skilled AIX Unix Engineer for a 6-month contract to join a high-availability infrastructure environment supporting critical business applications hosted on IBM Power Systems (AIX & Linux).

This role focuses on enterprise infrastructure stability, performance optimization, storage integration, and high availability design across complex Unix environments.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric (Grade 12)
• Relevant tertiary IT qualification
• IBM AIX certification (IBM Power Systems)
• 5+ years’ experience in Unix/Linux infrastructure (build & run environments)
• 3+ years’ experience in technical leadership or senior support roles
• Strong experience in enterprise hardware & software administration
• ITIL V3 or higher certification

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain IBM AIX (7.x or later) environments
• Perform patching, upgrades, system tuning, and troubleshooting
• Manage user access, roles, and system security
• Administer IBM Power Systems infrastructure (LPARs, HMC, VIO servers)
• Configure and manage Dual VIO Server environments (SEA, NPIV, vFC)
• Support LPAR mobility (DLPAR / LPM) and high availability setups
• Integrate and manage enterprise storage (EMC PowerMax / VMAX / Unity / PowerStore)
• Configure SAN zoning, LUN masking, multipathing (MPIO / PowerPath)
• Manage backup and disaster recovery (mksysb, TSM / Spectrum Protect)
• Support DR testing, replication, and failover processes
• Develop automation scripts using ksh / bash
• Support infrastructure automation using Ansible / PowerVC
• Monitor performance using tools such as nmon, topas, HMC, Unisphere
• Analyse system performance and recommend tuning and capacity improvements
• Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with ITIL processes

What we’re looking for

• Strong experience in IBM Power Systems (AIX + VIO + LPARs)
• Solid understanding of storage, SAN, and high availability environments
• Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues in production environments
• Strong scripting and automation capability
• Experience supporting 24/7 enterprise systems
