Backend Engineer (AWS + Big Data) FinTech | Onsite (MD/VA)

Role Overview

Seeking a hands-on Backend Engineer with strong expertise in cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, and big data technologies to support a FinTech client. You will play a key role in building scalable API platforms and high-performance data services.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services and APIs for large-scale data systems
• Develop distributed systems and microservices architectures
• Build and optimize big data pipelines (Hive, Spark, Hadoop, Presto)
• Develop RESTful APIs for high-performance data access
• Write optimized SQL queries
• Leverage AWS services for scalable solutions
• Participate in Agile development processes
• Improve system performance, scalability, and security
• Mentor team members and promote best practices

Required Skills

• Bachelor s degree in CS/IT or related field
• 5+ years of software engineering experience
• Strong programming in Java, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript
• 3+ years with big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, Presto)
• 3+ years building REST APIs and working with SQL
• 3+ years AWS experience (EMR, ECS, Lambda, S3)
• Experience with CI/CD (Jenkins, CloudFormation)
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems

Preferred Skills

• Scripting (Shell, Python, Perl)
• Experience with low-latency/high-throughput systems
• FinTech or data-heavy domain experience
• Knowledge of AWS Well-Architected Framework
• Serverless/event-driven architecture experience
