What you can look forward to.

Are data your thing? Then SBB is the right place for you: because they are created everywhere here - in the energy network, from sensor data on the condition of our vehicle fleet, or with cameras for damage detection on our tracks. As a Career Starter Data Science at SBB, you will deepen your knowledge in Data Engineering, Data Science, MLOps, and AI Engineering over 18 months. Thanks to the framework program and time for further training, you will build up railway knowledge so that you can implement effective use cases with your technical skills. What you can achieve.

• In three six-month development roles, you will work as an integrated team member of IT and data teams on various SBB challenges. You will learn how data can be profitably prepared and used - whether as a data product, targeted analysis, or machine learning model.
• You will prepare data from various data sources into usable data products using a modern cloud data warehouse stack.
• You will develop machine learning models and accompany them from the prototype phase to potential productive use (MLOps).
• As a technical contact person, you will work closely with specialist departments, analyze AI use cases, and support expectation management regarding feasibility, benefits, and maturity of AI solutions.
• You will actively drive understanding of the potential of data within the company, for example by engaging in the Data Science Community or designing and conducting training courses on data and AI.
• Thanks to various further training courses and site visits (e.g. to power plants or marshalling yards), you will develop an understanding of the complex railway system. This allows you to understand the different contexts and solve the right technical challenges with your technical knowledge.

What you bring.

• You are characterized by high initiative and commitment.
• You have strong analytical thinking skills and can derive well-founded insights and recommendations for action from data.
• As a team player with strong communication skills and a fascination for mobility, you look forward to taking on new challenges and familiarizing yourself with different teams.
• You have a university degree (university, university of applied sciences, Bachelor/Master) in a STEM field (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences or engineering), economics or business informatics.
• You have good programming skills and experience in statistics, data analysis and machine learning. Ideally, you are familiar with the Python data science stack (pandas, numpy, PyTorch / TensorFlow / JAX, scikit-learn etc.). Experience with Git, Docker and CI/CD is highly desirable.
• You have very good German skills (at least B2) and good English skills (B1).
