Clinical Data Scientist – AI & Automation
Pivotal
About the role
About
Pivotal is excited to expand our team and we are looking for an experienced, highly motivated Clinical Data Scientist — AI & Automation who shares our vision of providing clinical research excellence through the intelligent use of technology.
Joining Pivotal means becoming a member of one of the leading full‑service contract research organizations in Europe, with a very solid reputation. This role promises direct client experience, career growth, and professional development within a scientific and data‑driven company. You’ll have the opportunity to work across a wide variety of therapeutic areas while actively shaping how AI transforms clinical research from the inside.
Why Pivotal
- We are passionate and fully committed to medical science while leveraging cutting‑edge technology, including AI, to make a positive impact
- We provide an exceptional experience. We take care of our employees, ensuring everyone receives permanent mentoring, training, and a push to always take one step further, as well as international experience that will accompany you throughout your career
- We are continuously building our company, bringing together diversity of thoughts, backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives to create a place where everyone feels like they belong
Responsibilities
- Analyzing and interpreting complex clinical trial datasets to generate meaningful insights, identify trends, and support evidence‑based decision‑making across therapeutic areas
- Building, testing, and deploying AI agents that autonomously handle repetitive clinical research workflows — including data monitoring, anomaly flagging, automated Python‑based report generation, and stakeholder notifications
- Leveraging AI‑assisted development tools and publicly available LLMs to design, build, and iterate on analytical pipelines and automation solutions with speed and precision
- Designing and implementing predictive models and machine learning algorithms using frameworks such as scikit‑learn and TensorFlow to anticipate study risks and detect data quality issues proactively
- Developing interactive visualizations, dashboards, and automated Python‑based reports to communicate findings clearly and consistently to both scientific and non‑technical stakeholders
- Ensuring all AI‑powered solutions comply with applicable regulatory frameworks including GCP, 21 CFR Part 11, GDPR, and CDISC standards (CDASH, SDTM, ADaM)
- Applying ethical AI principles in a regulated clinical context, maintaining data governance, auditability, and patient data integrity at every stage
- Collaborating with data architects, software engineers, biostatisticians, and product development teams to integrate AI solutions into existing clinical research infrastructure
- Supporting study committee activities (e.g., DMC) by providing timely, rigorous analytical outputs
- Staying current with advances in AI, agentic systems, and data science methodologies and actively driving their adoption within Pivotal
- Performing other assigned duties as needed
Required Profile
- University degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Life Sciences, or a related field
- 4+ years of experience in clinical data science or related roles at a CRO or pharmaceutical company
- Hands‑on experience with clinical data platforms such as Medidata Rave, Medrio, Oracle, or others
- Solid understanding of CDISC standards (CDASH, SDTM, ADaM), ICH/GCP guidelines, 21 CFR Part 11, and applicable data privacy regulations
- Demonstrated hands‑on experience building AI‑powered workflows, automation pipelines, or agentic systems in a clinical or scientific context
- Familiarity with publicly available LLMs, AI development tools, and version control practices (Git)
Skills
- Strong analytical thinking and ability to translate complex clinical data into actionable insights and scalable automated solutions
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis, automated reporting, and AI agent development; working knowledge of R, SQL, SAS, and data visualization tools
- Solid understanding of ML frameworks (scikit‑learn, TensorFlow, or similar) for predictive modeling in regulated environments
- Deep commitment to ethical AI, data governance, and regulatory compliance in clinical research
- Genuine drive to build and innovate, not just adopt existing tools
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- Effective communication, collaborative mindset, and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
What You Can Expect
- A first‑of‑its‑kind role with real ownership — you won’t be maintaining legacy processes, you’ll be building new ones
- Career growth resources and flexible work schedules
- Training to enhance both therapeutic knowledge and cutting‑edge AI and data science tool proficiency
- A forward‑thinking environment where your work directly shapes the future of clinical research at Pivotal
- Exposure to dynamic, international work environments and a wide variety of therapeutic areas
Commitment to Equal Opportunity
At Pivotal, we believe that diversity and inclusion are essential to the success of our team. We are committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all candidates, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic.
