Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer with deep expertise in Citrix Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) to lead the strategic migration of our virtual desktop environment to the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. This role is critical to modernizing clinical and operational systems within a complex hospital and healthcare setting, ensuring minimal disruption to patient care and HIPAA-compliant access to virtual desktops.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the end-to-end migration of Citrix VDI environments (Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops/XenDesktop) to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), with minimal user disruption.
• Architect and implement secure, scalable, and resilient AVD solutions tailored to healthcare operational and compliance needs.
• Perform detailed assessments of the existing Citrix VDI environment including capacity planning, app dependencies, and user behavior analytics.
• Develop and maintain migration runbooks, documentation, and rollback plans.
• Collaborate with clinical informatics, compliance, security, and application teams to ensure smooth transition and continuity of healthcare operations.
• Define and enforce security policies including conditional access, identity management (Azure AD), multi-factor authentication, and role-based access control (RBAC) in line with HIPAA and hospital standards.
• Design and configure profile management (FSLogix), image management, and application delivery in the AVD environment.
• Oversee testing and validation, including pilot groups, UAT, and clinical impact assessments.
• Provide Tier 3 escalation support during migration and post-migration stabilization period.
• Train and mentor junior engineers and hospital IT staff on Azure VDI technologies and best practices.

Required Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with a strong focus on virtualization and cloud platforms.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Citrix VDI (XenDesktop, Citrix Cloud, Citrix ADC).
• 3+ years of direct experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) or Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD).
• Demonstrated experience migrating large-scale Citrix environments to cloud-based VDI solutions.
• Deep understanding of Active Directory, Group Policy, FSLogix, Intune, Azure AD, and conditional access.
• Experience working in or supporting healthcare IT environments, with understanding of HIPAA, HITECH, and other compliance standards.
• Proficient in scripting and automation using PowerShell, ARM/Bicep, or Terraform.
• Strong knowledge of networking, security, and storage principles in hybrid cloud environments.
