Cloud Systems Engineer (Mid) - FinOps

About

We are seeking a Mid-Level Cloud Systems Engineer to support a Cloud FinOps-focused initiative within the U.S. Air Force Cloud One ecosystem. This role is responsible for ensuring the stability, scalability, and performance of distributed cloud environments while supporting cost optimization and operational efficiency across multi-cloud platforms.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting cloud-based systems, performing systems engineering analysis, and leveraging metrics and automation to improve system performance and sustainability.

As a Cloud DevOps Engineer you will design, build, and maintain automated systems that continuously optimize cloud spend. You will partner closely with cost analysts, cloud engineers, and program leadership to translate cost-saving opportunities into scalable, repeatable engineering solution

Key Responsibilities

• Support the stability and sustainability of cloud-based networks and distributed systems
• Perform system integration, verification, validation, and supportability analysis across cloud environments
• Monitor and manage the health of distributed virtual machines and cloud infrastructure
• Analyze system performance, identify trends, and recommend improvements to optimize operations and cost efficiency
• Conduct functional analysis, timeline analysis, and trade studies for system enhancements
• Support requirements allocation and interface definition across hardware and software components
• Troubleshoot and resolve system functionality, performance, and configuration issues
• Develop and implement proactive engineering solutions to improve system reliability and scalability
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance cloud operations, tools, and processes
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives using metrics and performance data

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• 4+ years of experience supporting cloud or systems engineering environments
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, OCI, or Google Cloud Platform)
• Strong understanding of system integration, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting
• Experience analyzing system metrics and implementing performance improvements
• Active Secret Clearance required
• U.S. Citizenship required
• IAT Level II certification required
• One or more cloud certifications required

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting Cloud One or DoD cloud environments
• Familiarity with FinOps practices and cloud cost optimization strategies
• Experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar)
• Knowledge of cloud monitoring and observability tools
• Experience working in large-scale, distributed cloud environments
