About the role
Overview The Insurance Brokers Association of Alberta (IBAA) is seeking a contract Project Manager to lead the development and delivery of broker-focused education supporting the implementation of Care First Auto Reform.
This role will provide strategic leadership and project oversight for the Care First Auto Reform Education Committee. The successful candidate will coordinate subject matter experts, training facilitators, and third-party course developers to ensure Alberta brokers receive timely, practical, and high-quality education that addresses regulatory changes, operational impacts, and professional liability considerations.
This is a short-term contract position (approximately 6 months) anticipated to begin in April 2026, with flexible part-time hours aligned to project milestones.
Role Purpose The Project Manager will lead the planning, development, and rollout of the Care First Auto Reform education pathway for Alberta insurance brokers.
The role is responsible for translating regulatory and industry changes into a structured learning program, coordinating internal and external resources, cohesively integrating with government developed training and ensuring delivery timelines align with implementation milestones and licensing requirements.
The Project Manager will also act as Chair of the Care First Auto Reform Education Committee, providing leadership, accountability, and progress reporting to the IBAA Board.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Planning • Develop and manage the overall project plan for Care First Auto Reform broker education. • Define project scope, deliverables, milestones, and timelines aligned with regulatory implementation. • Coordinate the development of a hybrid training model including: - Core mandatory training • Live facilitated sessions • On-demand learning modules • Optional deep-dive topic courses • Ensure training rollout allows time for pilot testing, feedback, and refinement prior to full release.
Committee Leadership • Chair the Care First Auto Reform Education Committee. • Set meeting agendas and guide discussions to ensure progress against project objectives. • Assign tasks to committee members and SMEs. • Facilitate collaboration between brokers, trainers, claims professionals, and other industry stakeholders.
Content Development • Identify key broker-specific training needs including: - Coverage changes (government content) • Claims handling implications • Operational and process changes • Broker sales conversations with clients • Errors & Omissions (E&O) considerations • Coordinate SMEs to develop and validate technical content. • Work with third-party course developers to convert content into engaging learning modules (e.g., SCORM-based LMS content).
Training Delivery Strategy • Oversee the design of the broker education pathway, including: - Core mandatory learning • Live Q&A sessions • Recorded sessions for on-demand access • Supplemental advanced topics • Identify and recruit contract facilitators to deliver live training. • Establish mechanisms to capture broker feedback and common questions to inform future course development.
Stakeholder Coordination • Liaise with: - Government training initiatives related to Care First • Industry organizations • Carrier representatives • Education partners such as training institutes • Identify opportunities to leverage existing education resources where appropriate.
Governance & Reporting • Provide regular status updates to the IBAA Board and executive leadership. • Identify project risks, gaps, and resource needs. • Support development and monitoring of the education initiative budget.
Deliverables The Project Manager will oversee development and launch of: • A Care First Broker Education Framework • A core training course for Alberta brokers • Live facilitated training sessions • Supplemental broker-focused modules (e.g., claims implications, E&O considerations) • Recorded resources and on-demand learning materials • A recommended ongoing education roadmap following initial rollout
