Data Science Intern

MANTECH seeks highly motivated Data Science Intern to join our R&D team in the Data and AI Practice.

The ideal candidate will have interest in data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence with a special focus on embedding models, retrieval augmented generation (RAG) techniques, agentic flows, and language model (LLM) evaluation.

The intern will work closely with our data science and AI team to investigate, research, and assess various models and techniques to enhance our current systems.

Work will be remote and also in our Herndon, VA office. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen with an active US Security Clearance or eligible to obtain a US Security Clearance.

Potential Responsibilities Include

• Investigate Language Learning Models (LLM) to determine those suitable for client missions
• Develop and implement ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to migrate production data from old text-embedding-ada model to the new model
• Research effective retrieval augmented generation (RAG) techniques, such as directed graphs and recommend improvements
• Investigate the application of RAG techniques that use agents to pass data to a multimodal model
• Fine tune LLM(s) for applicability to our specific use cases

Qualifications

• US Citizen with active security clearance or eligibility for a security clearance
• Current Full time student pursuing a BS/MS in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or a related field
• Academic, project or professional experience with data science concepts and machine learning models
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to work independently and within a team

Clearance Requirements

• U.S. Citizen with an active US Security Clearance or eligible to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% and need to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
