Job Description
Must Have Technical/Functional Skills
- Strong hands on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments.
- Proven expertise in SQL Server installation, configuration, patching, upgrades and performance tuning.
- Solid understanding of SQL Server HA/DR solutions including Always On, Failover Clustering and Backup/Restore.
- Experience working on Data Center Exit or on premises to cloud migration programs.
- Good understanding of Windows Server platforms (2016/2019/2022/2025) hosting SQL Server workloads.
- Working knowledge of AWS infrastructure concepts related to database hosting on EC2.
- Ability to collaborate with application teams supporting Java and .NET workloads.
- Understanding of integration dependencies involving middleware such as TIBCO ESB.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead and execute migration of SQL Server databases from on premises data center to AWS EC2.
- Assess existing SQL Server environments and define migration, upgrade and optimization strategies.
- Perform SQL Server provisioning, configuration and tuning on AWS infrastructure.
- Ensure database security, access controls, encryption, backup and recovery policies are implemented.
- Coordinate with application, infrastructure and cloud teams to ensure smooth cutover and minimal downtime.
- Support testing, validation and performance benchmarking post migration.
- Troubleshoot database issues during migration and steady state operations.
- Document database architectures, configurations and operational procedures.
Cloud Experience Needed
- 7+ years of database administration experience with at least 2–3 years exposure to AWS.
- Hands on experience running SQL Server on AWS EC2, including storage and networking considerations.
- Understanding of AWS services such as EC2, EBS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch and VPC.
- Experience supporting hybrid environments during transition from on prem to cloud.
- Familiarity with automation, scripting or Infrastructure as Code is an advantage.
- Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD pipelines impacting database deployments is preferred.
- Experience working in large, mission critical enterprise migration programs.
- AWS or Microsoft SQL Server certifications are desirable.
