Basic Function

Responsibility for all pilot and process engineering, procedures and requirements. Also
Manages the Tool and Tech shops.

Responsibilities

1. Complete technical review assessments on incoming project opportunities.
2. Oversee Engineering and their projects.
3. Provide technical assistance to engineers when needed.
4. Provide thorough review of authored manufacturing procedures and filling procedures for final approval.
5. Evaluates, analyzes, and makes recommendations on products, designs, and cost improvements to enhance the competitive position of the company.
6. Analyzes data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
7. Review customer specifications and requirements meeting with customers to properly implement same as requested.
8. Act as primary technical contact to customers when needed.
9. Make necessary adjustments on pilot batches to ensure good product.
10. Identifies and interprets variations in product, equipment or procedures which may affect results.
11. Set up standard laboratory equipment, run testing, obtain results, accurately record the results of such tests.
12. Contributes suggestions for improving laboratory methods and procedures.
13. Help streamline communication between all engineering groups and PE and R&D and PE and Operations.
14. Must be familiar with functions and operation of all laboratory and production equipment in area of responsibility.
15. Work with manufacturing and production personnel on problem products when assigned, record and report data.
16. Assist in the formula input system for assigned area and implement batch pack.
17. Should have a good working knowledge of manufacturing and production procedures and G.M.P.’s.
18. Must exhibit safe work habits at all times.
19. Conduct detailed safety assessments on new formulas / new business to Kolmar.
20. Should have a good knowledge of raw material, chemical use in products.
21. Communicates with production supervisors on the acceptability of goods produced in an attempt to minimize defects.
22. Communicates with customers and vendors in regard to quality problems.
23. Coordinates work of the Machine Shop & Tech Shop to see that work is completed on schedule.
24. Oversees Tech Shop projects, assignment of projects and timing of projects.
25. Must be experienced and knowledge in tooling and parts for use on plant machinery, the use of metal working machines, precision measuring tools, mechanical drafting, etc.
26. Recommends or initiates personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, hiring for Engineering departments.
27. Required to be knowledgeable of the expertise of the employees in the department and make the best use of their skills.
28. Be capable of estimating materials and labor costs for the purpose of billing.
29. Continuously work to increase the efficiency of department.
30. Any other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor of Science degree or 10 years technical experience in Engineering or Chemistry.
2. Five to eight years of manufacturing plant experience preferably in the cosmetic industry.
3. Excellent communication skills.
4. Good public relations skills for interfacing with customers and outside plant vendors.
5. Knowledge of G.M.P.’s, environmental, safety and QC procedures.
