About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Process Engineering Manager to provide technical leadership for industrial gas and air separation projects across the region. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, this role leads a team of process engineers responsible for delivering cryogenic air separation and VPSA systems safely, efficiently, and on schedule—from proposal through commissioning and startup.
This is a hands‑on leadership role for a seasoned process engineering professional with deep expertise in industrial gases, air separation technologies, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall technical direction and leadership for the Process Engineering department
- Lead the design, optimization, and performance of world‑scale cryogenic air separation and VPSA plants supporting industrial gas applications
- Manage daily activities of the process engineering and process systems teams, driving technical excellence and continuous improvement
- Review customer inquiries and evaluate process alternatives; perform technical and economic trade‑off analyses to select optimal solutions
- Perform and oversee process simulations using tools such as UniSim and gPROMS
- Develop and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Heat & Material Balances (H&MBs), pressure drop calculations, utility and power consumption estimates, and product recovery projections
- Size major air separation and VPSA equipment including distillation columns, heat exchangers, compressors, pumps, adsorption systems, tanks, and cooling systems
- Develop equipment lists, line sizing, material selection, data sheets, and specifications
- Participate in and lead P&ID development, HAZOPs, technical risk assessments, commissioning, startup, and performance testing
- Review vendor proposals, drawings, and documentation for compliance with design standards and project requirements
- Provide ongoing technical support to operating plants, including troubleshooting and performance optimization
- Stay current on state‑of‑the‑art industrial gas technologies, process safety practices, and design methodologies
- Establish and improve department standards, best practices, tools, and procedures
- Lead people management responsibilities including hiring, training, mentoring, goal setting, and performance management
- Occasionally represent the organization as a senior technical leader in industry forums and professional organizations
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering
- 10+ years of experience in cryogenic air separation within an industrial gas company
- Required experience with VPSA (Vacuum Pressure Swing Adsorption) air separation systems
- Extensive experience developing and selecting process cycles and creating simulations using UniSim, gPROMS, or similar tools
- Strong background in PFDs, H&MBs, equipment sizing, process specifications, line sizing, and utility calculations
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and deliver results with minimal supervision
- Willingness to travel to plant sites throughout the region
Preferred Qualifications
- 15+ years in the cryogenic air separation or industrial gas industry
- Experience with non‑cryogenic adsorption air separation technologies
- Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering
- Advanced Process Control (APC) experience
- Foreign language capability (Spanish or Chinese)
Why This Role
This is a senior leadership opportunity to shape process engineering strategy and execution for complex industrial gas projects. You’ll lead highly skilled engineers, influence major capital projects, and play a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and innovative air separation solutions.
