About the role
Role Overview
We are looking for a highly experienced IoT Technical Architect to own and drive the reliability, stability, and performance of large-scale connected device platforms in production. This is not a feature development role—this position focuses on system ownership, incident response, deep debugging, and cross-functional technical leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong expertise across device, firmware, cloud, and mobile ecosystems, with the ability to quickly diagnose issues, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and lead resolution strategies across distributed teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end behaviour of IoT platforms in production environments
- Lead incident response, triage, and system-level debugging across device → firmware → cloud → mobile layers
- Perform deep root cause analysis (RCA) and define resolution strategies (hotfix, rollback, configuration changes, or escalation)
- Drive issue resolution across cross-functional teams including cloud, mobile, firmware, and offshore teams
- Ensure platform observability through logs, telemetry, and monitoring tools
- Make architecture and system-level decisions to improve reliability, scalability, and performance
- Collaborate closely with Customer Support, NOC, Engineering, and Business stakeholders on a daily basis
- Provide technical leadership and mentor a team of 4–7 engineers
Key Skills & Technical Expertise
- Strong experience in IoT and connected device ecosystems (mandatory)
- Hands-on expertise with:
- Cloud platforms (preferably AWS; Azure acceptable with strong IoT experience)
- Messaging protocols such as MQTT
- IoT platforms (e.g., ClearBlade or similar)
- Experience with observability tools (e.g., Datadog, logging, telemetry systems)
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across distributed systems
- Solid understanding of end-to-end data flow: device → firmware → cloud → mobile applications
Experience Requirements
- 10–18 years of overall experience
- Proven experience owning and supporting production systems at scale
- Demonstrated ability to handle real-world incidents and drive resolution end-to-end
Leadership & Collaboration
- Experience managing and mentoring small teams (4–7 members)
- Strong technical leadership across multiple domains (cloud, firmware, mobile)
- Ability to influence and coordinate across geographically distributed teams
Preferred Domain Experience
- IoT / Connected Devices (required)
- Telecom, Industrial IoT, or Consumer Electronics (highly preferred)
Work Profile
- 50% hands-on debugging, RCA, and decision-making
- 50% platform ownership, architecture, and leadership
What Success Looks Like
- Ability to quickly diagnose issues across the full IoT stack
- Strong decision-making in high-pressure production scenarios
- Driving system stability and reducing incident recurrence
- Acting as the go-to technical authority for platform reliability
Example Scenario
If devices stop reporting data, you will:
- Trace the issue across firmware, MQTT, cloud services, and mobile layers
- Identify the root cause
- Decide the resolution approach (fix, rollback, or escalation)
- Lead execution across teams to restore system functionality
