About the role
About
A high-growth, venture-backed industrial technology company is seeking a technically strong Engineering Manager to lead and scale its IoT development efforts. This is a hybrid leadership role at the intersection of hardware, embedded systems, supply chain, and software, offering the opportunity to shape both technical delivery and team culture during a key scale-up phase.
The Role
This is not a traditional management position. You will operate as a player-coach, driving delivery across multidisciplinary engineering teams while building the processes, systems, and culture needed to scale effectively. You’ll work closely with Product, Supply Chain, and cross-functional engineering groups to deliver robust, production-ready IoT solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop engineers across embedded, hardware (electrical & mechanical), and software domains
- Drive end-to-end IoT delivery from early hardware validation (EVT/DVT) through to production
- Oversee engineering execution, including sprint ceremonies, delivery metrics, and team performance
- Manage cross-functional dependencies across firmware, hardware, and cloud systems
- Own engineering-side relationships with contract manufacturers, including NPI, yield, and quality
- Partner with supply chain on component sourcing, BOM governance, and risk mitigation
- Ensure strong collaboration with DevOps, AI/ML, and internal tooling teams
What They're Looking For
- Proven experience in IoT or hardware engineering, with leadership responsibility in technical teams
- Strong background in embedded systems (firmware, RTOS, or bare-metal)
- Solid understanding of the hardware development lifecycle (EVT → production)
- Experience working with contract manufacturers and supply chain processes
- Ability to operate across multiple engineering disciplines and translate complexity into clear plans
- Track record of delivering through Agile/Scrum environments
Technical Exposure
- Embedded C/C++, OTA updates, and connected device architectures
- Hardware fundamentals: PCB design, system trade-offs, and enclosure considerations
- IoT connectivity (e.g., MQTT, LTE-M, LoRaWAN, BLE)
- Cloud-integrated devices, telemetry pipelines, and edge compute
- Familiarity with CI/CD for firmware and hardware-in-the-loop testing
Ideally you'll bring
- Comfortable balancing hands-on technical depth with team leadership
- Strong communicator across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience in industrial sectors (e.g., energy, oil & gas, manufacturing, infrastructure) is advantageous
- Prior exposure to multi-sensor data fusion, edge AI platforms, or real-time monitoring systems
- Familiarity with platform-product transitions — from services-led delivery toward scalable software platform models
- Background in both hardware-centric and software-centric product organizations
- Experience working with Jira, Confluence, or comparable tools for program/project trackin
Why Join?
- Opportunity to shape a scaling IoT platform at the intersection of hardware and software
- High-impact role with ownership across delivery, team, and process
- Collaborative, fast-paced environment with strong growth trajectory
If this role doesn’t feel like an exact fit, you’re still encouraged to apply, as the company is continuing to grow and hire across multiple areas of the team.
