Engineering Manager - Java

Role Overview : We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager - Backend to lead and scale our core backend engineering team in Pune. In this role, you will be the technical anchor and people manager for a team of talented backend engineers responsible for the high-performance engines driving our EMR platform.You will drive the architecture and delivery of scalable services, balancing technical strategy with team growth. You must have a deep background in Java ecosystem, event-driven architecture, and distributed systems, allowing you to mentor senior staff engineers, guide architectural decisions, and ensure our backend infrastructure remains robust as we scale.Key Responsibilities : People & Team Leadership : - Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of backend engineers.- Fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.- Manage the full employee lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development.- Conduct regular 1-on-1s to provide feedback, coaching, and support, helping engineers grow from individual contributors to technical leaders.Delivery & Execution : - Own the delivery roadmap for core backend services and APIs.- Ensure projects are delivered on time, meeting strict SLA and quality standards.- Collaborate with Product Managers to plan sprints, estimate efforts, and manage priorities in an Agile environment.- Identify bottlenecks in the development process and drive improvements in engineering velocity, specifically focusing on build times, deployment pipelines, and code review cycles.Stakeholder Management & Communication : - Serve as a key liaison to stakeholders outside of engineering, including Product, Customer Success, Sales, and Leadership teams.- Translate complex technical roadmaps and backend constraints into business-impact language for non-technical partners.- Manage expectations, provide transparent progress updates, and negotiate delivery timelines to align with broader business objectives.Technical Strategy & Architecture : - Provide deep technical oversight on backend architecture, specifically regarding Java, Spring Framework, and Event-Driven systems.- Champion best practices in backend development, including API design standards, microservices patterns, and complex workflow orchestration.- Ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of the platform by overseeing technical debt reduction and infrastructure improvements.Experience Range : 7 to 15 yearsEducational Qualifications : B.Tech/B.EJob Responsibilities : Technical Competencies : - Backend Expertise : Deep hands-on background in Java and the Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring Data).- Event-Driven Architecture : Proven experience with messaging systems and event streaming platforms such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or equivalent technologies.- Database Mastery : Extensive experience designing and overseeing systems built on relational (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases.- Architecture : Strong understanding of distributed systems, RESTful/gRPC APIs, and performance tuning.Skills Required : Java , Spring Boot (ref: hirist.tech)
