Senior Backend Engineer (Big Data | AWS | High-Scale Systems)

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to build and scale backend systems powering a platform used by financial analysts to monitor U.S. market integrity.

This is a greenfield architecture opportunity where you’ll work with one of the largest financial regulatory datasets in the cloud, processing billions of market events daily.

Must-Haves

• Backend (any: python, java, etc)
• Ballpark 3 years big data/Spark
• AWS
• Ability to do production support, think through how to optimize performance

What You’ll Do:

• Design and build scalable backend systems and APIs using modern microservices architecture
• Develop and optimize high-performance data processing pipelines using Big Data technologies (Spark, Hive, Presto, Hadoop)
• Work with AWS cloud infrastructure (S3, EMR, Lambda, ECS) to deliver resilient, scalable solutions
• Troubleshoot and support production systems, identifying bottlenecks and optimizing performance
• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven solutions at scale
• Leverage AI/LLM tools to enhance development efficiency and code quality
• Drive technical excellence through clean code, best practices, and continuous improvement

Must-Have Skills:

• Strong backend development experience (Java, Python, or similar)
• ~3+ years of hands-on experience with Big Data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Presto)
• Solid experience with AWS (S3, EMR, Lambda, ECS, etc.)
• Experience building and supporting production-grade systems
• Strong ability to debug issues and optimize system performance
• Experience building REST APIs and distributed systems
• Comfortable working in an Agile environment

Nice to Have:

• Experience with microservices architecture
• Strong SQL skills (complex queries, optimization)
• CI/CD experience (Jenkins, CloudFormation, etc.)
• Exposure to AI/LLM-assisted development tools
