About the role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced IT Technical Manager to lead the organisation’s technical service delivery environment.

Job Purpose

The Technical Manager leads the organisation’s technical service delivery environment, overseeing all technical related activities and collaborating with Bids, PMO and Service Delivery Management on daily operations. The role manages technical teams, ensures service delivery aligned to technology deployment activities, performance against SLAs, and aligns technology solutions with Client's Governance, Risk and Compliance service model.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Strategy & Architecture

  • Develop and implement the organisation’s technical architecture strategy aligned with Client’s service offerings.
  • Oversee the design and deployment of:
    • Disaster Recovery solutions
    • Business Continuity infrastructure
    • Cloud infrastructure
    • Cybersecurity platforms
    • Managed services environments
  • Ensure scalable and secure technical architectures.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies to improve service delivery.

2. Infrastructure & Cloud Management

  • Lead the technical delivery of:
    • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
    • Back-up as a Service (BaaS)
    • Cloud platforms
    • Virtualisation environments
    • Storage and backup systems
    • Data centre infrastructure
    • Connectivity platforms
  • Ensure systems are designed for:
    • High availability and scalability
    • Resilience and Data protection
  • Manage infrastructure performance, capacity planning and system optimisation.

3. Infrastructure & Cloud Management

  • Oversee technical implementation of:
    • Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS)
    • Backup and recovery systems
    • Business Impact Analysis technical integrations
    • Recovery testing environments
    • Failover and replication solutions
  • Lead disaster recovery testing and technical continuity exercises with clients.
  • Ensure solutions support defined Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)

4. Collaboration with Bids, Project and Service Management Departments

  • Support the Pre-Sales and Bids teams by providing technical input for proposals
  • Participate in project planning, estimation and technical scoping during project initiation stages.
  • Work closely with the Project Management Office (PMO) to support the delivery of technical implementation projects.
  • Provide technical oversight during project design, architecture and deployment phases.
  • Ensure appropriate technical resource allocation to project initiatives and service management.
  • Support the PMO in identifying technical risks, dependencies and mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure projects transition successfully from implementation to operational support environments.
  • Work closely with the Service Management team to ensure stable and efficient ongoing operations.
  • Support the definition and maintenance of Service Level Agreements
  • Ensure the technical environment supports incident, problem, change and configuration management processes.
  • Participate in major incident response and root cause analysis.
  • Ensure proper handover from project implementation to managed service support teams.
  • Drive continuous service improvement initiatives aligned with ITIL and ISO service management practices.

5. Technical Team Leadership

  • Lead and manage the organisation’s technical engineering teams.
  • Conduct performance management and technical mentoring.
  • Identify skills gaps and implement technical training programs.
  • Ensure the team maintains relevant vendor and technical certifications.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree/ National Diploma in Information Technology or equivalent.
  • A postgraduate qualification is advantageous due to the strategic and leadership nature of the role
  • 8-10 years IT experience
  • 5 years in technical leadership
  • Serviced multiple clients simultaneously
  • Experience in managing the following: Cloud Infrastructure, Enterprise Networking and Disaster Recovery Environments.

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)

IT Service Management Certifications

  • ITIL v4 Foundation
  • ITIL v4 Managing Professional (preferred)
  • Project Management Certification (advantageous)
