KI-Ingenieur / Data Scientist
Boehringer Ingelheim
About the role
About
For this position as AI Engineer / Data Scientist in Global Medical Regulatory Affairs in IT RDM (Research, Development & Medicine), we need your vision and your ability to transform complex data into meaningful actions.
We are redefining how Regulatory Affairs uses data, from creating reliable insights to orchestrating sustainable, agent-based architectures and selecting advanced AI technologies that truly advance our company. You will help us by asking questions like: What business value can we unlock with this data? How can we best support our experts through a reliable cognitive layer? Which technology is the right tool for this purpose – and how do we successfully bring these complex systems into production?
We are developing new ways of handling our data by combining corporate consulting with the practical application of AI technology – and with multi-agent orchestration and modern technical procedures.
Challenging? Definitely. Exciting? More than most jobs, we think.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy, as well as continuously operate and maintain LLM-based and Retrieval-Augmented Systems (RAG/GraphRAG), implementing legal and business requirements into validated, compliant production solutions
- Develop and execute end-to-end data, retrieval, and agent-based pipelines (multi-stage systems with tool usage) for complex, regulated datasets, incorporating traceability, robustness, and trustworthiness from the outset
- Analyze data flows in regulatory, clinical, and development areas to improve and further develop production architectures, ensuring compliance with GxP expectations, documentation standards, and auditability requirements
- Collaborate closely with business, regulatory, and technical stakeholders to structure and prioritize requirements, align risk-based quality levels, and ensure sustainable, compliant delivery – rather than one-off solutions
- Make practical contributions to long-running AI systems in production, including monitoring, incident analysis, iterative improvement, and controlled changes, to ensure reliability, continuous regulatory compliance, and business value.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field (PhD or equivalent experience is a plus)
- Proven track record of delivering production-ready ML/LLM systems, from concept and architecture to deployment and operation
- Hands-on experience in designing and operating complex agent-based LLM systems – including multi-stage, tool-assisted, and multi-agent pipelines
- Strong experience with retrieval-centric AI architectures for complex knowledge domains (e.g., RAG, GraphRAG, vector databases)
- Strong software engineering skills, including cloud-based deployment and operation of ML/LLM systems (e.g., AWS, Databricks)
- Experience in regulated or pharmaceutical environments is a plus; a strong interest in trust, traceability, and compliance is expected.
- Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to work in interdisciplinary, international teams.
