The AI Engineer joins a team of advanced professionals, including data scientists, engineers, and application developers. This role involves designing, developing, and operationalizing state-of-the-art AI solutions, including large language models (LLMs), to address complex challenges in clinical, operational, and business contexts. The AI Engineer will focus on building and integrating scalable AI/ML systems, collaborating on software development efforts, and driving innovation to advance Mercy’s vision of personalized, predictive, and proactive care.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2 years of experience in AI/ML development and software engineering, with demonstrated success in deploying production-grade AI solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and fine-tunes AI/ML models, including LLMs, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and agentic AI systems for diverse healthcare applications.
  • Builds and maintains scalable data pipelines and infrastructure for model training, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
  • Deploys and operationalizes AI/ML models in production, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Collaborates with software developers to integrate AI models into applications such as chatbots, recommendation systems, and analytics tools.
  • Applies advanced NLP techniques (e.g., transformer models like BERT and GPT) for document classification, summarization, and Q&A systems.
  • Monitors, tests, and retrains models to optimize performance and maintain accuracy.
  • Translates business needs into technical requirements through collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Communicates technical findings and solution impacts to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Applies modern software engineering practices including CI/CD, version control, and Agile methodologies.
  • Continuously evaluates and implements advancements in AI, LLMs, agentic AI, and software development.
