To implement our group-wide AI vision, we are building a new in-house AI team. For this, we are looking for an experienced Lead AI Engineer / Lead Developer (m/f/d) with a focus on Large Language Models (LLMs), scalable system architectures, and production-ready AI applications.
You will be responsible for the technological foundation for all future AI products of the JDC Group – from intelligent advisors and document processing to central AI platforms.
You will take on a key role in building the team, shape our technical direction, and develop smart solutions with real impact.
Your Responsibilities
- Technical leadership of a newly emerging group-wide AI team (up to 6 people)
- Architecture, development, and scaling of AI-powered applications – e.g.:
- AI Advisor (digital, AI-powered insurance consulting)
- AVB Companion (intelligent analysis and answering of insurance conditions)
- Document processing and automated classification
- Building and responsibility for a company-wide AI platform – with a focus on LLMs, RAG architectures, agent systems, and modular pipelines
- Conception and implementation of production-ready LLM and agent systems
- Tool selection and infrastructure responsibility (on-prem or Cloud, e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP – no specification)
- Integration into existing applications (.NET stack) and API-based system landscapes
- Building a scalable architecture for multiple business units (central AI infrastructure + decentralized use cases)
- Technical coaching of developers and building a high-performing team
- Close collaboration with IT, business departments, and the executive board – from idea to productive deployment
What You Bring
- At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in software development, data science, or AI engineering – ideally with a focus on productive AI systems
- Experience in building and operating scalable, productive AI architectures
- In-depth know-how in modern AI architectures, especially:
- Large Language Models (e.g., GPT, Claude, Mistral, LLaMA or similar)
- Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and semantic search
- Agent systems and tool orchestration
- Prompt Engineering, Chaining, and structured output formats
- Fine-tuning or adapting models to your own data
- Experience in developing modular, maintainable, and scalable AI pipelines (LLMOps/MLOps)
- Experience with vector databases and retrieval systems
- Experience with coding agents and AI-assisted software development, e.g.:
- Claude Code
- OpenAI Codex
- or comparable agent development environments
- Very good knowledge of Python and ideally experience with .NET (C#) and TypeScript/JavaScript
- Experience in cloud infrastructures (Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Architectural strength, strategic thinking, and hands-on mentality
- Experience in team leadership or technical mentoring
- Very good German and English skills
