About

We are looking for a highly skilled Lead Aviation Technical Writer/Editor with a comprehensive background in aviation operations and flight procedures. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional writing and editing abilities, a knack for synthesizing input from subject matter experts (SMEs), and a solid understanding of FAA standards, aviation regulations, and operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and generate high-quality technical documents, guidance materials, and reports related to FAA and National Airspace System (NAS) operations, policies, and concepts.
  • Transform complex technical and procedural information into clear and accessible content for diverse audiences, including engineers and policy leaders.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, engineers, and program personnel to collect, interpret, and confirm technical information effectively.
  • Draft, revise, and edit manuals, specifications, reports, and presentation materials while ensuring adherence to FAA documentation standards.
  • Leverage expertise in aviation terminology, NAS operations, and flight procedures to maintain technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Evaluate existing content to pinpoint opportunities for standardization, reuse, and increased clarity across various documents.
  • Guarantee that all materials meet relevant technical writing standards, style guides, and quality benchmarks, including federal and FAA guidelines.
  • Assist in the creation and upkeep of electronic publications and multimedia documentation as necessary.
  • Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency with 3+ years of U.S. residency.
  • Proven experience with the FAA and relevant environmental contexts.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field, along with 5+ years of experience in technical writing; or a High school diploma with 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in producing or editing FAA aviation regulatory documentation or similar publications.
  • Demonstrated ability to distill and synthesize intricate technical data and operational procedures into succinct and precise documentation.
  • Strong experience crafting content for FAA, DoD, or federal aviation programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of grammar, style, and technical writing conventions, with familiarity in FAA and government style guides.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and other documentation tools.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting FAA programs, particularly in areas like Aviation Safety (AVS), Air Traffic Organization (ATO), or NextGen offices.
  • Knowledge of FAA Orders, Advisory Circulars, and regulatory documentation standards.
  • Experience creating documentation related to NAS modernization, aviation safety initiatives, or flight operations.
  • Familiarity with XML-based publishing systems, content reuse strategies, and structured authoring (e.g., DITA).
  • This position is contingent on award and availability.
