Role Overview

Data Science is a core element of Coinbase's product development and decision‑making processes. Collaborating with Product, Engineering, and Design teams, we guide strategic roadmaps and deepen our understanding of user interactions. With our expertise in experimentation, analytics, and advanced modeling, we derive insights that significantly impact the company’s success.

The Retail Trading Data Science team is pivotal in influencing the strategy and performance of the retail trading platform. The team collaborates closely with cross‑functional stakeholders to define essential metrics, analyze user behaviors, evaluate experiments, and develop models that enhance product effectiveness and customer satisfaction. By leveraging data insights into trading behaviors, market dynamics, and platform performance, we drive critical business decisions and enhance engagement, trading activity, and long‑term customer value.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform thorough analyses on ambiguous business challenges, delivering insights and recommendations that steer decision‑making within the team.
• Take ownership of a vast array of metrics and data, overseeing everything from core logging to data visualization presentation.
• Lead code reviews, share your expertise in SQL and Python, and create reliable ETL processes.
• Uphold rigorous statistical standards within your team, ensuring robust experimentation and causal analysis that instill confidence among stakeholders.
• Articulate findings and recommendations succinctly to senior leadership, translating data into impactful narratives.

Your Qualifications

• A BA/BS in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Math, Statistics, Physics, or Computer Science) with 5+ years of relevant experience or a PhD with 3+ years of related experience.
• Proven history of spearheading influential data science projects that address complex and ambiguous problems.
• Expertise in managing end‑to‑end experimentation, from formulation to execution and analysis, maximizing insights for future product direction.
• Capability to engage external stakeholders by transforming data insights into compelling narratives.
• Practical experience applying complex modeling frameworks to address real‑world business challenges.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python programming.
• Exemplification of core values such as clear communication, positive energy, continuous learning, and efficient execution.
• Demonstrated skill in responsibly utilizing generative AI tools and copilots, learning as technology evolves and applying human‑in‑the‑loop practices to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost‑effectiveness.

Compensation Transparency Notice

The target annual base salary for this role may range based on your location as detailed below. Total compensation can also include equity and eligibility for bonuses and benefits (such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).

Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus):
$180,370‑$212,200 USD
