Lead Technical Risk Engineer

Ford Motor Company

Remote · US Full-time Senior $97k – $162k/yr Today

About the role

About

We are looking for an experienced Technical Risk Engineer who possesses a strong technical background to design, prioritize, and implement effective risk-reducing technical solutions in complex cloud and enterprise environments. This role focuses on solution engineering over traditional process engineering—leveraging risk frameworks, policies, and controls to architect scalable, automatable, and practical safeguards.

The ideal candidate is someone who thinks like an engineer first and a risk professional second: an individual who comprehends system failures, enforces controls through coding and architecture, and translates risk intentions into robust technical designs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop technical risk solutions that effectively reduce operational, cyber, and resilience risks by utilizing architecture, automation, and control design.
  • Convert risk requirements, policies, and standards into actionable technical patterns, guardrails, and reference architectures.
  • Influence design decisions based on risk impact, blast radius, and recovery dependencies.
  • Collaborate with platform, cloud, security, and SRE teams to integrate risk controls into infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Assess control effectiveness using technical signals and evidence, rather than relying solely on procedural compliance.
  • Support initiatives like secure cloud architecture, isolated recovery environments, identity and access management, and infrastructure resilience.
  • Provide guidance on risk trade-offs, recovery priorities, and dependency-aware system designs.
  • Contribute to streamlined process definitions where necessary, always in pursuit of better technical outcomes.

Preferred Technical Skills

  • Cloud Platforms: Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Automation & API Development: Proficiency in Python or Java, as well as Ansible for scripting and hands-on API development (RESTful).
  • Infrastructure as Code: Knowledge of Terraform is required.
  • Data & Analytics: Familiarity with GCP BigQuery and Power BI (or similar) for visualizing risk posture and evidence.
  • Backup, recovery, and resilience solution architecture experience.
  • Isolated Recovery Environment (IRE) design and implementation in GCP.
  • Supporting Knowledge (nice to have):
    • Expertise in GRC and/or Security domains.
    • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and policy-as-code.
    • Knowledge of Cloud IAM, networking, and control planes.
    • Experience with observability, logging, and evidence automation.
    • Familiarity with GRC Platforms like Archer and ServiceNow.
    • Understanding of ITIL-based IT Service Management (ITSM).
    • A background in Agentic AI Frameworks.

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in computer science, information technology, or a related technology field.
  • 7+ years of experience in IT operations & engineering roles, security engineering, platform engineering, SRE, or technical risk.
  • Experience in implementing backup, recovery, and resilience solutions, particularly IREs.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and influence technical solutions across teams.
  • A strong understanding of how risk manifests in distributed systems, cloud platforms, and automation.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively between engineering teams and risk professionals.
  • Able to articulate complex technical risk concepts to non-technical audiences effectively.

If you don't meet every requirement, but believe you can bring valuable skills to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
