The Role
As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will play a crucial role in developing advanced AI/ML systems to tackle significant challenges in robotics and manufacturing. You will collaborate with experienced engineers and researchers to design, prototype, and deploy innovative AI models that enhance vehicle design, manufacturing processes, robotics, and simulations of physical systems. Your contributions will directly influence GM's AI research initiatives and engage with the wider AI research community.
What You'll Do
- Adapt machine learning architectures for advanced industrial applications like computer vision, robotic manipulation, predictive maintenance, and process optimization.
- Build comprehensive deep learning pipelines that process multi-modal sensor data (e.g., vision, force/torque, proprioception, and environmental sensors).
- Contribute to the development of foundation models and transfer learning frameworks that apply across various industrial scenarios and equipment types.
- Help create data collection and annotation strategies to develop high-quality datasets for training and validating models.
- Collaborate with teams to translate technical requirements into machine learning solutions and facilitate integration.
- Manage the deployment and monitoring of machine learning models in production settings.
- Publish research findings in leading conferences (such as NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR) to bolster GM's presence in the research field.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in a relevant discipline or a Master's degree with substantial experience in AI/ML.
- In-depth knowledge of modern deep learning architectures, including Transformers, Diffusion Models, and CNNs.
- Strong hands-on experience with at least one major AI/ML framework (like PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras, or JAX).
- Proficiency in Python programming and familiarity with one or more systems languages (C++/Java).
- A demonstrated track record of publications in top AI/ML conferences or patents showcasing innovative contributions.
- Ability to derive research questions from complex problems and apply rigorous experimental methodologies, including hypothesis testing and statistical analysis.
- Able to commit to full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with anomaly detection and predictive maintenance applications through coursework, research, or projects.
- Experience with reinforcement learning for robotic control or process optimization through relevant work or research.
- Experience in training multimodal deep learning models.
- Research contributions in AI/ML showcased through publication of PhD work in leading conferences or journals.
Compensation
The estimated salary range for this role is $130,000 - $170,000, reflecting what a successful applicant may earn according to state regulations. The final salary offered will align with this range based on relevant factors.
