We are looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to revolutionize how we optimize our operations using ML and GenAI. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply the latest advances in ML to real-world problems impacting millions of users and the future of digital finance.

Our AI teams focus on building intelligent systems that protect our platform while ensuring a seamless experience for legitimate users. We aim to automate traditional tasks like manual document review and risk assessment with scalable, state-of-the-art machine learning solutions.

Responsibilities include: • Define the technical strategy for a portfolio of projects. • Design and implement models to protect Coinbase funds. • Fine-tune LLMs for document processing and risk assessment. • Create real-time ML pipelines to detect and prevent risks proactively. • Collaborate with domain experts to translate knowledge into ML features and models. • Build explainable ML systems that justify risk assessments. • Deploy models at scale with high availability and low latency.

Qualifications: • 10+ years of industry experience in Machine Learning or PhD + 5 years. • Experience with Payment Risk, Credit Risk, or Account Take Over models. • MS in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related field (PhD preferred). • Strong developer skills, leveraging auto-code generation for scalable applications. • Expertise in modern ML techniques (DNNs, transformers, LLMs, classification). • Experience deploying ML systems at scale. • Ability to balance model complexity with production requirements. • Effective communication skills for working with domain experts.

Nice to have: • Familiarity with financial regulatory requirements. • Knowledge of crypto/blockchain technology.

Compensation: The target annual salary is CAD 217,900, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.
