Job Description

Cherry Bekaert is excited to announce an opening for a Manager of Finance & Accounting Operations to become a vital part of our Not-for-Profit and Commercial practice. We are seeking a candidate with over 7 years of relevant finance or accounting experience, along with expertise in functional and technical design across various financial modules (e.g., GL, AP, AR, Consolidations). Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of experience working with Financial System solutions such as Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics.

This position plays a critical role in delivering comprehensive operational accounting support across multiple clients, including the preparation of essential monthly financial reports (Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss Statement, Cash Flow, etc.). Responsibilities also encompass annual tasks such as 1099 preparation and assistance with year-end financial statements.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing daily operations and month-end close entries, including revenue, payroll, prepaid expenses, unbilled accounts receivable, and accrued liabilities.
  • Preparing and reviewing complex reconciliations for balance sheet and various general ledger accounts.
  • Managing the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Developing a deep understanding of the accounting functions of each client and their accounting software.
  • Supporting external auditors and tax accountants with necessary documentation and data preparation.
  • Assisting in the year-end 1099 submissions for clients.
  • Designing and implementing controls and procedures for the department.
  • Maintaining regular communication with clients.
  • Reviewing and supervising the accounting team's monthly tasks, including journal entries, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Coaching and mentoring staff and senior accountants.
  • Managing client requests and deadlines among team members.
  • Overseeing client project management.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7 years in nonprofit accounting, with at least 3 years in a managerial capacity.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, with CPA preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and spreadsheet applications, particularly Sage Intacct and/or QuickBooks.
  • Ability to work autonomously while managing and coaching team members and meeting multiple client expectations.
  • Exceptional communication skills capable of distilling relevant information from large data sets.
  • In-depth knowledge of general and subsidiary ledgers and financial statements.
  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting and engagement monitoring.
  • Proactive and innovative approach adhering to deadlines and responsive to client needs.
  • Exemplary ethics, a positive attitude, and composure under pressure.
