Marketing and Communications Manager

Askeland Consulting

Canada · flexible Full-time Senior Yesterday

About the role

About

At SOAR, we’re not just colleagues—we’re people with purpose, coming together to change the narrative around intimate partner violence-caused brain injury (IPV-BI).

We are a registered charity and the only organization in Canada dedicated to the intersection of intimate partner violence and brain injury. Our culture is grounded in kindness, flexibility, and a shared belief in the importance of our mission to Explore, Educate, and Empower. We are looking for a creative and strategic leader to serve as our marketing and communications manager, helping us amplify our impact and secure the resources needed to support survivors of IPV-BI across the country.

The Role

Reporting directly to the executive director, you will be the guardian of the SOAR brand. You will lead our external communications and support fund development efforts, ensuring our message is survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and reaches a national audience. This is a senior role that requires a blend of high-level strategic planning and "hands-on" execution across digital and traditional platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and oversee the integrity of the SOAR brand across all platforms, ensuring alignment with our strategic plan.
  • Plan, execute, and monitor all communications, including our website (WordPress), social media (Buffer), monthly newsletters, and the organization's annual report.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for digital and traditional media outreach, coordinating interviews and managing government relations and advocacy efforts.
  • Conceive and develop promotional and awareness materials (brochures, toolkits).
  • Develop and maintain a crisis communication framework to protect the organization’s reputation and ensure sensitive responses to community issues.
  • Apply Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and digital advertising strategies to increase the visibility of SOAR’s educational and other resources.
  • Lead community management efforts on social platforms, fostering a safe and supportive online environment.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of digital campaigns and website traffic, using data to inform future outreach strategies.
  • Maintain an up-to-date grant calendar; source new grants, research, write, and submit high-impact funding applications and required reports.
  • Track progress on existing grants and reporting on wins/losses across potential funders.
  • Develop and execute multi-channel fundraising campaigns (digital and traditional) to diversify and expand SOAR’s donor base.
  • Implement a donor recognition and retention strategy to foster long-term relationships with individual and corporate supporters.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, or fund development, preferably within the non-profit sector.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications, or a related discipline.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Mastery of WordPress, social media management tools (e.g., Buffer), email marketing platforms, and basic graphic design (e.g., Canva).
  • Proven track record in securing grant funding and executing successful fundraising campaigns.
  • Proven ability to work independently and make confident decisions while maintaining a collaborative spirit across remote teams.
  • A creative mindset with the ability to leverage AI tools responsibly as supportive aids in content creation.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.

Why SOAR?

We strive to create an inclusive, mentally healthy workplace where professional excellence is balanced with personal well-being. A remote work model offers full flexibility to structure your day, provided objectives are met and you are available during core collaborative windows.

This position also comes with paid, annual vacation and sick time, health and dental benefits, and opportunities for ongoing professional development.

Our Commitment to Diversity

SOAR is committed to hiring with diversity, equity, and inclusion at the forefront. We therefore encourage applicants from all backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences to apply.
