The Core Facility Metabolomics of the Medical Faculty of the University of Tübingen, Southern Germany, is looking for a highly-motivated and experienced postdoc data scientist for Multimodal Metabolomics & Lipidomics (LC-MS, NMR, MALDI) including Mass Spectrometry Imaging.
The open position shall be filled at the earliest possible date with a graduated scientist f/m/d (PhD in computational metabolomics, bioinformatics, chemometrics, biology or similar) in full time with an initial duration of 1.5 years and potential option of extension. Located at the new M3 Research Center (https://www.medizin.uni-tuebingen.de/de/das-klinikum/einrichtungen/zentren/m3), the Core Facility is embedded in an excellent scientific environment and stands out through strong interdisciplinarity.
The Core Facility is equipped with cutting-edge analytical systems for the preparation and analysis of biological samples such as tissue, organoids and biofluids from a variety of different human diseases (cancer, neurodegeneration, metabolic disorders) or animal models. We have furthermore a strong computational cluster at the M3 Center, aiming to explore large untargeted and spatial metabolomics data also by AI and computational approaches.
Responsibilities
- Head data scientist for data analysis at a cutting-edge Core Facility
- Implementation and development of data analysis SOPs for Metabolomics & Lipidomics
- Development of data analysis pipelines for multiparametric MALDI imaging
- Annotation and quality control of spectral datasets (MALDI-MS and LC-MS/MS, including ion mobility) and their analysis by modern computational approaches
- Creation and maintenance of databases for reference spectra and measurement data archiving according DFG and FAIR guidelines
- Client communication, project management, and preparation of reports and invoices
- Support with teaching, publications, and third-party funding applications
Qualifications
- Completed PhD in the field of Systems Biology or Computational Sciences with a focus on Chemometrics (Biology, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, etc.) and Metabolomics/Lipidomics
- Proven practical knowledge of programming languages (R, Python, etc.) and new AI methods and confident application of those to develop new pipelines
- Strong expertise in Metabolomics, Lipidomics, and MALDI Imaging with publication track
- Passion for bioinformatic data analysis in a clinical environment and new Core Facility
- Structured and organized work style with a high degree of self-responsibility
- Strong ability to work in a team and manage multiple parallel projects simultaneously
