Are you passionate about driving digital transformation in drug discovery? As Principal Data Scientist, you will pioneer digital, data science, and AI solutions that shape how the Global Drug Discovery Sciences (gDDS) makes key decisions when developing new medicines.
Join the Data and Digital Sciences (DDS²) team as a digitalization expert who actively drives data science and AI innovation in drug discovery. You will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with subject matter experts across pre-clinical drug discovery, from hit identification to candidate selection. Lead digital innovation projects and provide impactful data analyses that directly benefit Boehringer's research programs, bringing new medicines to patients.
This is an onsite position located in Biberach. This position is part time eligible with 80%.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Drive and lead digital innovation projects with internal and external stakeholders across pre-clinical drug discovery, from hit identification to candidate selection.
- Apply data science expertise hands-on to deliver high-quality analyses in areas such as high-throughput screening, in vitro and in vivo DMPK, PK/PD, and safety pharmacology.
- Identify internal and external innovation opportunities and integrate them into gDDS's data science landscape.
- Collaborate with partners across drug discovery disciplines to support ongoing discovery programs with fit-for-purpose data analyses.
- Guide students and scientists and provide expert data science advice.
- Promote digital innovation by sharing results at expert meetings, presenting at scientific conferences, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Pharmacology, or a related quantitative discipline
- Several years of relevant postdoctoral or industry experience working in multidisciplinary, cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated success in driving digital innovation in pharmaceutical research, drug discovery, biology or medicine. Project management experience is beneficial
- Profound understanding in theory and principle of mathematics, statistics and data science approaches with proven application to drug discovery in areas such as AI, OMICS, DMPK, in vitro and in vivo biology, and biomarker research
- Proficiency in scientific programming languages (e.g., Python or R), common data science tools and advanced data analytics
- Strong ability to communicate effectively with internal and external drug discovery experts
- Experience in leading peers and working in cross-functional matrix project teams
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken
