About the role
About Us
BTRY is a Swiss startup revolutionizing energy storage with its cutting‑edge thin‑film, solid‑state battery technology. We are on a mission to power the future of IoT, MedTech, and consumer electronics with our high‑performance battery technology. Join our mission now!
The Role
As a Product Engineer, you will work directly alongside our R&D Laboratory Director and engineering team. You will play a hands‑on, highly autonomous role in producing, testing, packaging, and optimizing our thin‑film solid‑state batteries. This is a unique opportunity to gain deep technical experience, take real ownership of product deliverables, and thrive within a fast‑paced, collaborative startup environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Cell Packaging & Post‑Processing: Lead the encapsulation, tabbing, and packaging of our thin‑film cells. Leverage your hands‑on experience with conventional battery packaging (e.g., pouch cells, coin cells) to adapt and implement robust, reliable packaging solutions for our unique ultra‑thin solid‑state architecture.
- Prototyping & Customer Delivery: Take ownership of the final assembly, quality control, and timely delivery of engineering samples and custom prototypes, ensuring they meet the exact integration requirements of our commercial partners.
- Production & Characterization: Manage the standard production of batteries and conduct electrochemical testing to evaluate battery performance, cycle life, and safety.
- Data Analysis: Collect, analyze, and present experimental data to the R&D team to drive product optimization and troubleshoot issues.
- Ideation: Bring fresh ideas to the table during brainstorming sessions and team meetings, helping drive innovation in battery technology and packaging design.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, SOPs, and technical reports to ensure quality and reproducibility.
Your Profile
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, physics, nanotechnology, or a related field.
- Specialization in electrochemistry, solid‑state physics, energy storage systems is a strong plus.
- Proven practical experience in conventional battery cell assembly and packaging (e.g., handling pouch foils, sealing, tab welding, or protective encapsulation), or in related fields such as OLED or solar cell fabrication.
- 2+ years of hands‑on laboratory or industry experience.
- Previous exposure to thin‑film characterization (SEM, XRD, optical microscopy), and battery testing (galvanostatic cycling, EIS, CV) is a strong plus.
- Previous experience with Python and Microelectronics is a plus.
- Fluency in English (min. B2); additional languages (particularly German) are advantageous.
- Problem‑solver, team worker, eager to learn, highly adaptable, and excited to roll up your sleeves in a startup environment.
Our Offering
- A front‑row seat to the commercialization of groundbreaking battery technology.
- A dynamic, inclusive, international and highly collaborative startup culture.
