Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is actively seeking a dynamic and skilled Senior Automated Test Engineer to join our Veterans Affairs (VA) department. This is a full-time opportunity that offers remote work flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, cases, and procedures to ensure our systems, products, and services fulfill organizational standards and meet end-user needs.
• Create detailed test plans, schedules, and methodologies.
• Write robust test cases and scripts while identifying essential data for testing scenarios.
• Conduct walkthroughs of test cases/scripts with key stakeholders, including Test Managers and Project Managers.
• Lead the testing processes of software and IT systems to guarantee operational integrity and freedom from defects.
• Perform verification activities on deliverables using established methods and procedures.
• Thoroughly document and communicate test results to relevant parties.
• Support the analysis of test outcomes and the resolution of any arising issues.
• Identify and resolve complex challenges while providing updates on progress to management.
• Contribute to process improvements and create models for potential future configurations.
• Generate daily metrics and reports on testing progress.
• Occasionally assist with other IT systems engineering activities, including requirements gathering and operational support.
• Apply technical principles and concepts effectively in all tasks.
• Independently set objectives to achieve defined goals and evaluate accomplishment.
• Deliver innovative technical solutions to complex problems by analyzing relevant data.
• Collaborate across teams and represent SSG in resolving challenging technical issues.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong programming skills in languages such as C#, Java, or Python.
• Proven experience working on complex software projects with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
• Experience in both manual and automated testing methodologies.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum practices and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Proficient in authoring and executing test cases, scripts, and overall test plans.
• In-depth knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools like Selenium and JUnit.
• Experience with CI/CD tools, such as GitHub Actions.
• Familiarity with version control systems, including Git and Subversion.
• Understanding of performance testing using tools like JMeter.
• Experience with defect tracking and management systems, such as JIRA.
• Solid understanding of database management and SQL for data validation.
• Experience testing web applications, APIs, and services.
• Knowledge of security testing practices and tools.
• Familiarity with various testing types, including functional and regression testing.
• Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently while also being an effective team member.
• Attention to detail with a commitment to high‑quality results.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
• Experience mentoring junior testers.
• Ability to translate business requirements into effective test scenarios.
• Experience with test management tools.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools.
• Ability to conduct review sessions and give constructive feedback.
• Understanding of risk‑based, exploratory, and context‑driven testing.

Professional Certifications

Advanced certifications in testing or quality assurance are a plus (e.g., ISTQB, CSTE).

Experience Requirement

A minimum of 10 years of work experience in software testing and quality assurance.

Desired Background

• Experience with Electronic Data Interchange X.12 (EDI) and Medical Claims.
• Familiarity with cloud‑based testing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) is advantageous.

Education Requirement

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field with 10+ years of relevant experience.

Citizenship Requirement

U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.

Security Clearance Requirement

Must have or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI).
