Position Overview
We are searching for a talented Senior Cloud Database Engineer to design, automate, and support innovative cloud-based database solutions. This role requires expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and AWS CloudFormation. You will leverage skills in cloud engineering, database administration, and automation to ensure our database systems are secure, scalable, and efficient.
The successful candidate will work across Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud products as well as enterprise logging services and automation platforms.
This position offers a hybrid work schedule, requiring you to work in the office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT, or Charlotte, NC) three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement cloud-based database architectures aligned with application requirements and organizational goals.
- Collaborate with application teams to develop scalable, secure, and high‑performing cloud database solutions that adhere to enterprise standards.
- Partner with Cloud Engineering and Site Reliability Engineers to integrate database CI/CD pipelines into application deployments utilizing tools like Jenkins and Ansible.
- Showcase in‑depth knowledge of database provisioning and automation tasks using IaC tools, including AWS CloudFormation and Terraform.
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery and high availability strategies.
- Create operational procedure manuals for deployments and standards.
- Manage source control, branching strategies, and CI/CD workflows using GitHub.
- Automate monitoring and alerting for database performance and availability.
- Assess new product releases and recommend implementation of new versions.
- Integrate database workflows with ServiceNow for efficient change and incident management.
- Provide second‑level support for troubleshooting production incidents.
Required Skills & Experience
- A minimum of 10 years of professional experience managing relational and NoSQL databases in cloud environments (AWS and GCP).
- Hands‑on expertise with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
- Experience with GitHub for version control and automated workflows.
- Familiarity with Jenkins pipelines, Ansible automation, and ServiceNow.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts including VPCs, subnets, and security best practices for database deployments.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- A passion for engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work cross‑functionally. Excellent critical thinking abilities.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
- Exceptional documentation skills for operational policies and procedures.
- A desire for ongoing professional development.
Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I‑983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
Compensation
The annual base pay range for this role is $137,200 – $205,800, based on an analysis of similar roles in the market. Actual pay may vary depending on performance, skills, and competencies required for the role. This base pay is part of a total compensation package that includes potential bonuses, long‑term incentives, and recognition programs.
