The Team
As a Senior Data Scientist in Generative AI, you will report directly to the SVP of Data Science at Norstella. Your mission will involve keeping abreast of the latest frameworks and agent harnesses to aid in the design and development of our next-gen GenAI Framework. We have successfully launched AI Assistants over the past two years, with seven products actively serving customers and many more in development. You will collaborate within a multi-functional team, comprising pharmaceutical industry experts, R&D personnel, data engineers, and fellow data scientists, to quickly prototype solutions using both our existing and newly acquired datasets throughout the pharmaceutical life cycle.
Scope of the Role
In your role, you will:
- Collaborate with our Product leadership to conceptualize and define new offerings where agents and assistants can enhance customer experiences.
- Lead and manage a team of data scientists and developers to provide Generative AI-enabled API services for the front-end development team.
- Oversee a roadmap for Generative AI projects, balancing new product development with enhancements to existing services.
- Design LLM and Agent architectures to address complex queries through code interpretation, LLM tool usage, and integration of secondary data science models.
- Mentor and guide your team of data scientists and developers in utilizing these architectures.
- Continuously learn about advancements in the field and share insights with the data science team through regular presentations.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
How You'll Succeed
Your ultimate goal is to facilitate patient access to life-saving therapies. You will work alongside R&D pharma specialists to identify obstacles hindering the development and release of effective pharmaceutical products. After gaining a clear understanding of the problems, you will brainstorm potential solutions, breaking down the challenges into manageable steps and determining how our existing services can be integrated or adapted for successful implementation. You will then document high-level tasks in Jira with time estimates for yourself and other team members involved in the proof-of-concept (POC). Following this, you'll start generating indicative results from test questions for further exploration by the broader multi-functional team. You will also conduct code reviews to enhance implementation quality and strengthen the overall codebase.
As the prototype is iteratively refined with input from customers, you may convert it into a full product. This will entail productionizing your code and the team's work to a high standard, including containerization and algorithm deployment, typically using AWS ECS with existing CI/CD templates. Over time, you may need to revisit and optimize this product based on performance evaluations. Historically, a successful General Availability launch is achievable in approximately six months from project inception.
Essential Requirements
- Master's degree or higher in a STEM field (Math, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering) or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong proficiency in Python and core data science libraries, with hands-on experience in leveraging LLM libraries for algorithm design.
- Proven experience as a project lead, managing stakeholders and highly specialized professionals outside of technical domains.
- Exceptional technical communication skills for effective collaboration with broader development and product teams.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies like Scrum and Kanban, including task breakdown into Jira tickets.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with AWS, serverless architecture, containerization, and data storage solutions.
- Knowledge of the pharmaceutical sector, particularly the stages and terminologies relevant to drug development.
- Able to rapidly prototype new product ideas with a basic understanding of the full tech stack, from web applications to databases.
- Experience integrating external APIs in production environments.
Benefits
- Comprehensive medical and prescription drug coverage.
- Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).
- Flexible vacation policy and company holidays.
- Dental and vision insurance.
- Basic life and AD&D insurance.
- 401k retirement plan with company matching.
