Airbus Defence and Space is seeking several Machine Learning & Data Engineers (m/f/d) - AI for Autonomous Systems.

To shape the future of autonomous systems, Airbus is combining its strengths in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy. To this end, we are establishing a new, agile competence and development center at the traditional technology site of Tesat in Backnang. In this environment, which combines decades of expertise in space technology with the dynamics of a startup, we are developing the next generation of AI-powered defense and dual-use applications.

As a Machine Learning & Data Engineer, you will be at the heart of our AI development. You will not only develop the intelligent algorithms that enable our systems to understand and act, but also build the robust data infrastructure required for them. Your work lays the entire foundation for successful "Data-Driven Defence".

Responsibilities

• Model Development: Design, implementation, and training of state-of-the-art machine learning models, particularly in the areas of computer vision and sensor fusion.
• Data Infrastructure: Conception, construction, and maintenance of scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines for processing multimodal sensor data.
• Data Platform Management: Building and optimizing our central data platform (Data Lake/Warehouse) to ensure data availability and quality.
• Optimization & Validation: Continuous improvement of model performance and rigorous validation under real and simulated conditions.
• MLOps & Integration: Close collaboration with our engineers for seamless integration of models and data processes into our CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• A completed Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
• Proven experience (approx. 4-8 years) in developing deep learning models and in data engineering (Big Data technologies, cloud platforms).
• Excellent programming skills in Python, SQL, and familiarity with common ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch) and data tools (e.g., Spark, Databricks).
• A proactive, solution-oriented approach and the ability to succeed in an agile, interdisciplinary team.
• Fluent English skills, German language skills are an advantage.
