As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer within our Onboard Embodied AI organization, you will play a crucial role as an individual contributor, developing end-to-end machine learning solutions that enhance autonomous driving performance. Your responsibilities will include designing and deploying advanced ML models that convert raw sensor data into actionable driving behaviors, allowing vehicles to navigate complex environments and conditions effectively. You will lead important technical initiatives, work closely with cross-functional teams, mentor fellow ML engineers, and help define the future of onboard machine learning capabilities.

The Onboard Embodied AI team is pioneering next-generation onboard ML systems that power fully autonomous vehicles. Our focus is on leveraging state-of-the-art machine learning methods and sophisticated neural networks trained on extensive driving data to create solutions that enable vehicles to interpret intricate, dynamic driving environments, manage uncertainties adeptly, and adjust to evolving circumstances seamlessly. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced onboard ML models for real-time inference, ensuring robust autonomous driving performance.
• Architect and implement complex machine learning projects from inception to validation and onboard deployment, focusing on scalability and safety.
• Promote innovation in neural network designs, training strategies, and optimization techniques suitable for real-time deployment.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to elevate engineering practices and foster ML innovation within the team.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering groups to integrate ML capabilities into autonomous vehicle systems seamlessly.
• Influence technical roadmaps and align strategic ML priorities with organizational goals and product timelines.

Your Skills & Abilities

• Master's or Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical area.
• Experience of 4+ years with large-scale Foundation Models, including LLMs, VLAs, and vision-focused models.
• Extensive background in developing and deploying advanced ML systems, particularly for real-time onboard applications.
• Proven experience as a technical expert in creating robust deep learning models that convert sensor data into actionable outputs in safety-critical settings.
• Deep knowledge of cutting-edge computer vision techniques, neural architectures, representation learning, inference in real-time, and robustness under uncertainty.
• Strong software engineering skills, particularly in Python and C++, along with practical experience in modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and JAX.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and mentorship skills, able to influence technical strategies and guide ML engineering proficiency across the organization.
• Experience in AV/ADAS is highly advantageous.

Compensation

This section lists compensation estimates in good faith according to applicable state laws. Compensation may differ based on job location differences.

• The salary range is $180,000 to $280,000, with actual offers based on relevant factors.
• Incentive Pay: A performance-driven program based on company and individual performance.

Work Environment

This position is hybrid, requiring attendance at the Mountain View Technical Center in the Bay Area at least three times a week.

Company Vehicle

After a successful motor vehicle record review, you may qualify for a company vehicle evaluation program, providing an opportunity to assess a General Motors vehicle. Note: You will be required to purchase or lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless exceptions apply.
