Senior Managed Services Engineer

Baltimore Consulting

Cockeysville · Hybrid Full-time Senior $60k – $80k/yr 2d ago

About the role

Baltimore Consulting is a managed services provider supporting a diverse portfolio of regional clients across multiple industries. Our Managed Services team delivers everything from responsive, day‑to‑day IT support to the design and execution of complex infrastructure projects—and we’re seeking a technically strong, client‑focused Senior Managed Services Engineer to join our growing team. A significant part of this role is client-facing: you'll regularly communicate with clients by phone and work directly with them to diagnose issues, explain solutions, and build trust over time.

In this role, you’ll work hands‑on across Azure and Windows Server environments, network infrastructure, and Microsoft security services. With a broad client base, each day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn—variety is the norm, not the exception. We operate with strong team communication, defined escalation paths, and a culture of collaboration. This is an environment where initiative, curiosity, and thoughtful problem‑solving are highly valued.

This position is primarily in‑office in the Baltimore Metro area, with one remote day per week. We believe in‑person collaboration enhances response times, strengthens mentorship, and builds deeper client relationships. Occasional on‑site client visits are required and are typically local.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide responsive support via phone, ticketing system, and email, resolving end-user issues both remotely and on-site.
  • Configure and manage advanced Office 365 security services, including Conditional Access Policies, Risky User/Sign-In Policies, Microsoft Defender, and Sentinel.
  • Deploy, configure, and troubleshoot firewalls and network infrastructure, including resolving complex network outages at client sites.
  • Perform proactive maintenance on client environments and collaborate with account teams to recommend infrastructure improvements.
  • Participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule.
  • Support project work occasionally outside business hours — typically 2–4 planned maintenance windows per year, with advance notice.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 6+ years of professional IT experience, preferably in an MSP or consulting environment.
  • Strong networking expertise: firewalls, managed switches, wireless, and VPNs — from deployment through ongoing management and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced Microsoft 365 administration: hands-on experience with Intune, Defender, Conditional Access, and multi-tenant environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Server platforms and Azure services (VMs, storage, networking, App Services).
  • Comfortable scripting and automating tasks with PowerShell.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V.
  • Strong communication skills — able to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent prioritization skills and composure when managing competing demands.

Nice To Have

  • Relevant certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect, Microsoft 365 Enterprise Administrator, or CISSP.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or contributing to team knowledge-sharing practices.
  • Familiarity with PSA/RMM tools common in MSP environments.

Benefits

  • Health Coverage - Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • PTO - Paid time off and holidays
  • Certification budget - Annual reimbursement for exams and training
  • Team culture - Collaborative, growth-focused environment
