About The Role
The Senior Manager, Cloud Platform Engineering is responsible for designing, building, and operating the company’s cloud platform foundations, with a primary focus on AWS and awareness of Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
This role leads the engineering of standardized landing zone capabilities, account provisioning, infrastructure-as-code frameworks, and shared platform services that enable application and product teams to deploy workloads in a secure, reliable, and repeatable manner.
This leader owns the engineering delivery, reliability, and evolution of core platform capabilities, including identity integration, baseline security and policy controls, tagging standards, networking enablement, and observability foundations.
The role partners closely with Security, Networking, and Product Engineering to drive automation‑first delivery, reduce operational friction, and ensure the cloud platform is secure‑by‑default, auditable, and cost‑attributable across environments.
Responsibilities
- Platform Engineering Leadership: Lead the platform engineering team responsible for landing zone evolution, account vending, and standardized platform components.
- Define and maintain the platform roadmap aligned to business priorities, regulatory needs, and delivery velocity.
- Establish engineering standards for modules, templates, and paved‑road patterns that product teams can adopt with minimal friction.
Landing Zone & Account Vending
- Own the end‑to‑end account vending experience (service catalog inputs, baseline provisioning, automated onboarding to shared services).
- Ensure new accounts launch with required baseline: identity integration, tagging, policy guardrails, encryption defaults, logging, and monitoring.
- Manage OU / account standards, naming conventions, and account lifecycle workflows.
IaC Orchestration & Policy‑as‑Code
- Own the platform’s infrastructure delivery workflow (PR‑based plans/applies, approvals, drift detection, and compliance checks).
- Implement and maintain policy‑as‑code controls (tag policies, guardrails, resource constraints, and exception handling).
- Reduce ClickOps by enforcing “code‑first” changes and providing safe break‑glass patterns.
Shared Services Enablement (Platform Scope)
- Partner with Networking and Security to enable platform‑level integration points (baseline network patterns, security tooling onboarding, centralized logging).
- Deliver reusable constructs and reference architectures for common workload needs (networking, compute, data, observability).
- Publish and maintain platform documentation and standards (“how to consume the platform”).
Reliability & Operational Excellence (Platform Services)
- Define SLIs/SLOs for platform services and improve reliability through automation.
- Lead post‑incident reviews for platform‑impacting events and drive corrective actions.
- Establish platform KPIs and executive reporting (adoption, lead time, drift, compliance, availability).
Vendor & Financial Management (Platform Tooling)
- Own platform tooling execution in partnership with procurement and security.
- Drive cost‑efficient platform patterns and track platform run costs.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Build and develop a high‑performing platform engineering team; establish clear expectations, growth paths, and succession depth.
- Foster a culture of ownership, automation, and engineering excellence.
Minimum Requirements
Requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years in cloud platform/infrastructure engineering, including 3+ years leading engineers or technical teams.
- Strong AWS foundation experience.
- Proven experience with infrastructure‑as‑code and PR‑based workflows.
- Experience implementing governance guardrails.
- Ability to partner across Security, Networking, and Product Engineering in a regulated environment.
- Exposure to large multi‑cloud implementations.
- Advance Cloud platform automation experience across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Ability to succeed in a highly collaborative team environment with multiple in‑flight initiatives and stakeholders.
- Outstanding leadership, facilitation, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate and influence at all levels of the organization.
- Strong situational analysis and decision‑making abilities.
- Experience with Product focused Program Management.
- Ability to Implement critical initiatives for the organization.
- Success Measures: account vending lead time reduced to hours, high paved‑road adoption with reduced exception volume, consistent baseline compliance with low drift rates, improved platform availability and provisioning reliability, clear repeatable platform patterns that reduce engineering cycle time.
