About
Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Manager – Information Security (Tools & Engineering) to support a leading global technology organization. This role will lead a team of senior security engineers responsible for building, integrating, and operating enterprise security tooling across hybrid infrastructure environments. This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring deep engineering expertise combined with strong people leadership. This position will be hybrid in Reston, VA and offers strong compensation, executive visibility, and long-term growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of senior-level security engineers responsible for deployment, integration, and operations of security technologies
- Oversee the full lifecycle management of enterprise security tools, including implementation, optimization, and ongoing maintenance
- Drive a strong engineering-first approach, focusing on automation, scalability, and operational efficiency
- Design, build, and integrate security tooling across hybrid environments (on-prem + cloud)
- Partner with Security Operations teams to ensure tools align with detection, prevention, and response workflows
- Develop and track KPIs, metrics, and maturity roadmaps for security tooling effectiveness
- Ensure tools are properly configured, monitored, and aligned with security best practices
- Drive continuous improvement in detection coverage, automation, and overall tool performance
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, infrastructure, and security teams to align initiatives
- Contribute hands-on to complex technical challenges, including scripting, integration, and system-level problem solving
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in security engineering, security tooling, or related technical roles
- 2+ years of experience managing or mentoring engineering teams
- Strong hands-on experience with enterprise security platforms such as: SIEM, EDR, Vulnerability Management (VM), Cloud security tools, Security orchestration and automation platforms
- Proven experience in scripting and automation (Python or similar)
- Strong technical background in systems, networking, and security tool integration
- Experience working in hybrid environments (on-prem + AWS/Azure)
- Ability to balance hands-on engineering work with leadership responsibilities
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and business teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading highly technical teams within security engineering or cyber organizations
- Background in building and integrating security tooling (not purely SOC, compliance, or policy-focused roles)
- Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, GPEN, or similar
- Experience in highly secure environments such as technology, financial services, or infrastructure-focused organizations
- Familiarity with DNS security or critical infrastructure security environments
Compensation
- Salary Range: $164,300 – $222,300 depending on experience
- Bonus: ~20% annual bonus + RSU equity
