Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is actively searching for an experienced Senior Developer in Test (SDET) to join our Veterans Affairs (VA) department. This is a full-time remote position where military veterans are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and procedures to ensure that all systems and products meet organizational standards and user requirements.
  • Develop and manage test schedules and approaches to maintain efficient testing processes.
  • Create detailed test cases and scripts while identifying the necessary data for effective testing scenarios.
  • Collaborate with Test Managers, Requirement Leads, Project Managers, and Development Leads to conduct thorough walkthroughs of test cases and scripts.
  • Lead testing efforts for software and IT systems to confirm functionality and eliminate defects.
  • Conduct verification activities on work products using established criteria and testing environments.
  • Document and communicate test results clearly and effectively.
  • Assist in analyzing test results and resolving identified issues.
  • Offer solutions to complex problems and report on the progress of resolution efforts to management.
  • Provide insights for improving current testing procedures and develop models for future configurations.
  • Create daily metrics and reports on testing efforts.
  • Occasionally engage in IT systems engineering tasks such as requirements analysis, design, installation, and support.
  • Apply technical concepts and practices in various scenarios.
  • Establish goals and objectives to meet project requirements and provide guidance to team members as needed.
  • Engage in interdepartmental and external customer communications to address technical challenges.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong programming skills in languages such as C#, Java, or Python.
  • A successful history of contributing to complex software projects with a focus on high-quality outcomes.
  • Experience with both manual and automated testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and a solid understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Proficient in developing and executing test cases, scripts, and plans.
  • Expertise with test automation frameworks and tools like Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, and LoadRunner.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions.
  • Understanding of version control systems including Git and Subversion.
  • Knowledge of performance testing tools like JMeter and Gatling.
  • Experience with defect tracking tools such as JIRA and Bugzilla.
  • Proficient in SQL and database validation.
  • Experience testing web applications, APIs, and services.
  • Understanding of security testing practices and related tools.
  • Familiarity with various testing types, including functional, regression, integration, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Excellent analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently as well.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Able to mentor junior testers effectively.
  • Skilled in translating business requirements into actionable testing scenarios.
  • Experience with test management tools.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools.
  • Able to provide constructive feedback during test reviews.
  • Strong understanding of risk-based, exploratory, and context-driven testing.

Professional Certifications

  • Advanced certifications in testing or quality assurance (e.g., ISTQB, CSTE, CSQA) are preferred.

Years of Experience

  • 10 or more years in total work experience, specifically in software testing and quality assurance.

Desired Experience

  • Familiarity with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) for Medical Claims.
  • X.12 medical claims (837, 834, 277, etc.)
  • Familiarity with cloud-based testing platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure is a plus.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field with 10 or more years of relevant experience.

Citizenship Requirement

  • Only U.S. citizens will be considered for this opportunity.

Security Clearance Requirements

  • A Public Trust (MBI) clearance is required, which may involve a government investigation.
