About the Role

The Platform Product Group engineers are tasked with building a secure, scalable, and compliant platform, ensuring speed, efficiency, and quality. Our teams manage the infrastructure essential to Coinbase's operation, including teams focused on Product Foundations, Machine Learning, Customer Experience, and Infrastructure.

The Compute team, responsible for building and managing the Kubernetes platform, serves as the backbone of compute orchestration at Coinbase. We continually strive to enhance scalability, reliability, efficiency, and user experience with our Kubernetes infrastructure, closely collaborating with teams in Routing, Security, Reliability, and Observability.

Key Responsibilities

• Create tools and automations that simplify and enhance the management of our Kubernetes clusters.
• Develop solutions that elevate the developer and operational experience of using Kubernetes.
• Implement automation and self-healing features within our Kubernetes platform to reduce on-call responsibilities.
• Design and develop new features for Kubernetes that support service owners, such as one-off jobs, cron tasks, various deployment strategies, EFS support, and automated resource optimization.
• Provide support to our customers as they run critical services within Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, with expertise in Kubernetes or similar compute orchestration platforms (e.g., Mesos, Nomad).
• Strong knowledge of AWS and/or GCP infrastructure.
• Experience in building backend services, in addition to infrastructure development.
• Demonstrated ability to uphold high-quality standards, be self-motivated, and possess strong interpersonal skills.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, analyze their root causes, and implement solutions.
• Skill in balancing business objectives with technical solutions.
• Proven experience in scaling backend infrastructure.

Compensation

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual base salary for this position ranges between $186,065 and $218,900 USD. Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and comprehensive benefits, such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
