Senior Staff Cloud Engineer
Overview
Credit Acceptance Corporation is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Cloud Engineer to lead the strategy, design, development, and implementation of large-scale cloud projects. You will own the cloud architecture, administration, maintenance, and availability of all cloud infrastructure and supporting tools. You will demonstrate and encourage a culture of automation, orchestration, and efficiency while driving cloud strategy that aligns with departmental and business goals. You will provide thought leadership and build cloud solutions that deliver high-impact business value, lead the design and implementation of scalable, reliable, and maintainable cloud solutions, and contribute to ongoing company growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead strategy, design, development, and implementation of large-scale cloud projects.
- Own architecture, administration, maintenance, and availability of cloud infrastructure and supporting tools.
- Drive cloud strategy and align architecture with departmental and business goals.
- Promote automation, orchestration, and engineering efficiency.
- Collaborate with business partners, product managers, and designers to define product requirements and direction.
- Drive technical innovation and improvements in cloud design and architecture across the organization.
- Define and drive cloud engineering best practices and document standards and engineering artifacts.
- Conduct impact analysis to identify effects of change across multiple applications/systems.
- Perform technical due diligence and architectural assessments of third-party technologies.
- Debug critical production problems and execute effective solutions.
- Participate in talent selection, mentor team members, and coach cross-functional partners.
- Develop standard architectural practices and lead solutions development across partner engineering groups.
- Define and document best practices and strategies for cloud deployments and maintenance.
- Ensure application performance, uptime, and scale.
- Perform routine environment audits of cloud accounts for compliance with established standards, policies, configuration guidelines, and procedures.
- Maintain a comprehensive cloud library of all supporting documentation.
- Drive automation and self-service capabilities for software engineers; develop automation scripts in various languages.
- Right-size cloud infrastructure with cost and performance in mind.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of experience designing scalable cloud/hybrid environments.
- Strong background in AWS and Azure.
- Experience developing and managing Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, GitHub, etc.
- Experience in a lead role overseeing technical direction for multiple Cloud/Platform/Development/DevOps/SRE teams.
- Extensive experience building and driving adoption of cloud engineering best practices.
- Experience driving impact on mission-critical, enterprise-class applications with organization-wide impact.
- Hands-on experience with LLM integration patterns and at least one LLM gateway or proxy product (examples listed in posting), including model routing, rate limiting, and token usage attribution in a multi-tenant cloud environment.
- Expert knowledge of DevOps processes.
- Experience with policy-as-code frameworks (OPA, Cedar, or equivalent) in production cloud environments, particularly for access control and automated compliance enforcement.
- Ability to coach business partners and cross-functional team members and mentor senior-level members.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hybrid cloud/data center environments.
- Experience with multi-tier and microservice applications and SaaS/PaaS/IaaS deployments.
- Experience with performance metrics and trending/monitoring tools (CloudWatch, ELK, Splunk, etc.).
- Familiarity with other cloud providers (Oracle, Google).
- Experience with backup and data protection technologies, patching tools, virtualization environments, and observability/alerting tools (PagerDuty, etc.).
- Experience with agentic orchestration frameworks and familiarity with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) for building or securing agent tool interfaces.
- Experience with LangGraph or LangChain and other agentic/orchestration frameworks.
- Experience using Excel or similar tools for data analysis and reporting.
Compensation and Benefits
- Target base salary range: $161,000 – $237,000.
- Eligible for an annual variable bonus of cash and equity between 15–30% based on individual performance.
- Final compensation influenced by role-specific skills, depth and experience, industry background, education, and certifications.
- Candidates in certain major metropolitan areas (San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, San Diego) may be eligible for a location premium.
