About the role
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Vice President (SVP) – Database Engineer to support a mission-critical, FAA-aligned program with strict delivery timelines and high-performance system requirements.
This is a senior, hands-on engineering role focused on database architecture, performance optimization, and system resiliency during an active build phase and ongoing platform modernization. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing and scaling secure, high-volume financial data systems.
Work Environment & Requirements
- Onsite Requirement: Approximately 4 days per week (not a remote role)

Work Authorization
Due to federal aviation program requirements and export control regulations, this role is open only to:

Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable Oracle database solutions for high-throughput applications
- Develop cross-region replication and fault-tolerant architectures
- Lead performance tuning and optimization (query tuning, indexing, partitioning)
- Ensure data security and compliance, including encryption and access controls
- Collaborate with engineering teams on data modeling and PL/SQL development
- Establish monitoring, alerting, and reliability standards (SLOs)
- Integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Liquibase, Flyway)
- Support data platform modernization initiatives, including Snowflake and Databricks
Required Technical Skills
Database & Data Engineering
- Oracle Database (primary environment; experience with Exadata preferred)
- PL/SQL, stored procedures
- Performance tuning tools (AWR, SQL Trace, TKPROF)
Cloud & Infrastructure
- Microsoft Azure (primary cloud platform)
- Disaster recovery and cross-region failover design
Security & Compliance
- Experience in regulated environments (e.g., FedRAMP or similar)
- Strong expertise in:
- Database encryption (TDE, encryption in transit)
- Role-based access controls (RBAC) and least privilege
- Auditing and compliance frameworks
Data Platforms (Preferred)
- Snowflake
- Databricks
AI-Enabled Engineering (Required)
Candidates must demonstrate hands-on experience using AI tools within engineering workflows, including:
- Query optimization and code generation
- Test case generation and validation
- Reviewing and debugging AI-assisted outputs
Basic Qualifications
- 9–11+ years of experience in database engineering or related roles
- Deep expertise in Oracle database internals and performance tuning
- Strong experience with high availability, replication, and fault tolerance
- Experience integrating databases into modern CI/CD pipelines
- Background in financial services or regulated environments (preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing mission-critical, high-availability systems
- Strong understanding of data architecture and distributed systems
- Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and influence cross-functional teams
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced, delivery-driven environments
