The Position:
AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Software Data Scientist-Journeyman to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. The salary range of this position is $100,000.00 - $144,700.00 and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

Position Background:
The Analysis, Debrief, and Test (ADT) Branch supports the development, integration, and testing of the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) Technical Baseline (JTB) product suite. The software products comprising the JTB support modeling and simulation (M&S) environments; trainer systems; test and evaluation (T&E); analysis; live, virtual and constructive (LVC); research and development (R&D) activities for DoD agencies and its international partners. All products are government owned, developed and managed.
A typical day as a Software Data Scientist-Journeyman may include:
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure the systems meet rigorous performance standards
• Partners with the Planning and Reporting (P&R) team to identify components and capabilities requiring verification and validation
• Collaborates with the P&R team on the best analytical strategies to answer complex questions
• Takes ownership of system data by cleaning, analyzing and visualizing the information
• Extracts actionable insights, validates system performance and reports your findings back to the Test and Execution (T&E) team
Must-haves:
• HS Diploma or equivalent
• 5 years of relevant work experience
• 5 years of professional experience with Python 3.11+ in scripting, automation and data processing workflow
• 5 years of professional experience with Pandas and NumPy for data manipulation, cleaning, aggregation and numerical computation
• 3 years of experience with SQL (PostgreSQL) for data querying, data modeling and performance-optimized queries
• Familiarity with best practices in software development, testing and code quality (unit tests, integration tests, data validation checks, etc.)
• Experience designing, building and validating data pipelines in a production, research or test environment
• Strong understanding of data science fundamentals (statistics, hypothesis testing, data cleaning, exploratory data analysis (EDA), etc.)
• The ability to work with large complex datasets and perform data wrangling, transformation and feature engineering
• The ability to translate analysis into clear visual summaries and narratives for the customer
• Experience with version control systems (Git) and collaborative workflows
• AMEWAS willing to obtain and process full clearance-The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Security Clearance
Desired Skills:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology, Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Operations Research, Data Analytics or Engineering
• 2 years of experience in data visualization using Matplotlib and Seaborn for exploratory analysis and performance/metrics reporting
• Familiarity with SQL management tools (PGAdmin4, DBeaver, etc.)
• Experience with Luigi or similar workflow/orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect or Dagster) for building and managing data pipelines
• Experience with containerized or automated environments (Docker, Ansible or similar tools)
• Strong problem-solving skills
• The ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to document processes and present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience working in a Verification and Validation (V&V), test or quality assurance environment

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:
The physical environment for this position requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for most of the workday. Work is physically comfortable. The employee has discretion about sitting, walking, standing, etc.
The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site or near the work site. On rare occasions, overnight travel may be required.
