Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is actively recruiting an innovative Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our dynamic team.

This is a full-time remote opportunity within our Veterans Affairs (VA) department, and we highly encourage military veterans to apply!

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and testing procedures to guarantee that all systems and services align with organizational standards and meet end-user requirements.
• Create test schedules, approaches, and document testing strategies for various projects.
• Develop, write, and maintain test cases and scripts, ensuring appropriate data is supplied for testing scenarios.
• Collaborate with Test Managers and other stakeholders on test cases and scripts.
• Lead testing efforts on software and IT systems to confirm their functionality and eliminate defects.
• Conduct thorough verification of work products using established methods and set criteria.
• Document and communicate test outcomes effectively.
• Support the analysis of test results and assist in resolving identified issues.
• Identify complex problems and work towards their resolution.
• Provide regular updates on problem-solving progress to management.
• Develop enhancements to existing processes and construct models for potential future configurations.
• Prepare daily test metrics and reports.
• Occasionally engage in IT systems engineering tasks such as requirements gathering, design, installation, operation, and support.
• Apply technical principles and concepts in real-world scenarios.
• Coordinate objectives and establish goals to achieve them.
• Guide team members in accordance with organizational policies.
• Evaluate and ensure fulfillment of objectives.
• Offer technical solutions to complex problems requiring data analysis.
• Create imaginative, comprehensive, and feasible solutions aligned with our objectives.
• Independently determine and outline approaches for problem resolution.
• Review completed work to ensure it meets required objectives.
• Exercise good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for developing solutions.
• Contribute to the completion of specific programs and projects.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders frequently.
• Represent the organization by providing solutions to challenging technical issues within different projects.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Proficient programming skills in languages such as C#, Java, or Python.
• Demonstrated history of successfully managing complex software projects and delivering quality outcomes.
• Experience in both manual and automated testing processes.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Ability to write and execute test cases, scripts, and develop test plans effectively.
• Strong knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools such as Selenium, TestNG, or JUnit.
• Experience with CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions.
• Knowledge of version control systems including Git and Subversion.
• Understanding of performance testing tools like JMeter.
• Experience with defect tracking tools such as JIRA or Bugzilla.
• Proficiency in database and SQL to validate stored data.
• Experience testing web applications, APIs, and services.
• Understanding of security testing methodologies and tools.
• Familiar with various testing types including functional, regression, integration, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Adept at working independently as well as part of a team.
• Detail-oriented and committed to delivering high-quality work.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adhere to deadlines.
• Capacity to mentor and guide less experienced testers.
• Ability to translate business requirements into effective test scenarios.
• Familiarity with test management tools.
• Knowledge of DevOps methodologies and tools.
• Aptitude for conducting test reviews and providing constructive feedback.
• Strong understanding of risk-based testing, exploratory testing, and context-driven testing.

Professional Certifications

Advanced certifications in testing or quality assurance (e.g., ISTQB, CSTE, CSQA) are highly appreciated.

Experience

10 or more years in software testing and quality assurance roles is required.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and related medical claims processes is desirable.
• A familiarity with cloud-based testing platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure is also a plus.

Education

A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, alongside 10 or more years of relevant experience.

Citizenship Requirement

U.S. Citizenship is mandatory for this opportunity. Selected candidates will undergo a government security investigation to qualify for access to classified information and must meet eligibility criteria for obtaining a government-granted security clearance, including any applicable background checks.
