Role: Backend Engineer

Your Impact

  • Craft reliable, scalable systems powering Coverflex's compensation platform.
  • Design APIs, optimize databases, and make architectural decisions impacting employee benefits.
  • Work embedded within a focused product team with clear ownership.
  • Collaborate with product managers and designers from discovery through delivery.
  • Own meaningful problems end-to-end and ship features simplifying compensation.

Success Metrics

  • Ship features impacting key team metrics like transaction processing and operational friction.
  • Build reliable infrastructure with monitoring and graceful degradation.
  • Improve system quality through optimizations, error handling, and data consistency.
  • Implement testing coverage, observability, documentation, and patterns for velocity.
  • Lead features end-to-end with minimal oversight and sound architectural decisions.
  • Elevate the team via code reviews, knowledge sharing, and engineering standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with product to ensure building the right solutions.

Challenges

  • Ship features quickly while maintaining system stability and reliability.
  • Coordinate across multiple systems and teams handling payments, benefits, insurance, and compliance.
  • Build flexible systems accommodating different country regulations and compliance requirements.

Requirements

Must-haves

  • Strong backend engineering fundamentals.
  • Production-ready mindset including testing, observability, and monitoring.
  • Experience shipping in small PRs with CI/CD.
  • Product thinking focused on user outcomes.
  • Collaborative and easy to work with, valuing team practices and feedback.

Nice-to-have

  • Professional experience with Elixir/Phoenix.
  • Multi-market B2B SaaS experience.
  • Fintech or regulated industry background.
  • AI-assisted development habits and prompt-level fluency.
