About the Role

In this role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to NIH leadership, helping guide complex data science programs from planning through execution. You’ll work across scientific stakeholders, technical teams, researchers, and executive leadership to align priorities, manage risk, and deliver measurable progress.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate complex scientific data science programs, including initiatives involving biomedical data, precision medicine, research repositories, and emerging public health priorities.
  • Apply PMBOK, Agile, SAFe, and NIH EPLC frameworks to manage program execution, governance, schedules, risks, and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, work breakdown structures, dashboards, RACI matrices, risk registers, executive briefings, and other key program artifacts.
  • Support modern software delivery practices, including Agile ceremonies, DevSecOps coordination, metrics, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a primary liaison among NIH leadership, scientific stakeholders, technical teams, and research program leaders.
  • Provide strategic recommendations related to data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, large language models, and emerging technology adoption.
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of commercial and custom-developed technology solutions.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Public Health, Health Informatics, Genomics, other -omics disciplines, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience managing complex scientific, research, or R&D programs.
  • 7+ years of program management experience supporting complex scientific or R&D programs.
  • 7+ years of experience across at least two of the following areas: data science; machine learning, AI, or LLMs; computer science or bioinformatics; genomics or other -omics disciplines; health informatics or electronic health records.
  • U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency and the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, MS Project, and Smartsheet.
  • Strong executive communication skills, including experience preparing and delivering briefings for senior leadership.

Required Skills

  • Experience supporting NIH, HHS, or other federal health or research agencies.
  • Direct familiarity with NHLBI scientific data programs and systems, especially BioData Catalyst, TOPMed, BioLINCC, and RECOVER.
  • Experience working in federal IT governance, reporting, and compliance environments.
  • Ability to manage interdisciplinary teams across science, technology, operations, and policy.
  • Strong executive presence and the ability to translate complex technical topics for diverse audiences.

Work environment

Hybrid role supporting NIH. Work is primarily remote, with onsite support expected at least one day per week in Bethesda, Maryland. Remote availability is required during core business hours of 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Eastern Time.
