The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is seeking a full‑time Staff Accountant (GS‑0510‑7T12) to work at JB Andrews, Camp Springs, MD. The position can be filled at any grade and is a permanent, non‑remote role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties as a professional accountant resolving complex problems, developing and revising fiscal procedures for Chief Financial Officer (CFO) compliance.
  • Provide liaison functions between AFAA, base organizations, Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), and the Services.
  • Serve as the command focal point for accounting structure alignments with the Services and DFAS.
  • Examine, verify, reconcile, and maintain accounts and accounting data in the Air Force accounting systems.

Compensation

  • Salary range: $57,736 – $133,142
  • Travel: 25 %

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Responsible for safeguarding classified or sensitive accounting‑related information and/or files.
  • Must meet the Financial Management Level 2 certification requirements as required by the National Defense Authorization Act.
  • Must satisfy the minimum qualification requirements for the 0510 occupational series as stipulated by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
  • Experience conducting audit testing is highly desirable.
  • Professional knowledge of generally accepted accounting methods, practices, procedures, regulations, policies, processes, and standards (e.g., GAAP).
  • Education: A degree in accounting or a related field (business administration, finance, public administration) that includes 24 semester hours in accounting (up to 6 hours may be credit in business law).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) and Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge of a wide range of accounting systems and related documents used to gather and analyze budgetary information.
  • Knowledge of missions, functions, goals, objectives, work processes, and sources of funding pertinent to accounting organizations.
  • Knowledge of automated data processing concepts, system capabilities, and economic usage to effectively complete accounting assignments.
  • Skill in organizing, analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating data to reconcile accounting reports, develop alternatives, and make recommendations to resolve accounting problems.
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience requested.

Requirements

  • US citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain secret security clearance.

  • Professional knowledge of commonly accepted accounting methods, practices, procedures— regulations, policies, processes, and generally accepted accounting principles and standards (such as those gained from the completion of formal professional accounting training).
