Bateman Mackay LLP is recruiting a full-time Staff Accountant to join the NTR/Compilations Team. This hybrid role can be located out of our Burlington or Mississauga Office, including weekly work from home days.

Role Responsibilities

  • Prepare compilation engagements (NTR), financial statements and corporate tax returns with support from Senior Accountants and/or Manager where needed
  • Prepare T5s for respective (assigned) corporate groups
  • Review previous year’s file to understand client profile; draft questions for client that may assist with file preparation and obtaining missing information/documentation
  • Begin to develop skills to identify complexities and/or risks in files and bring them to Sr/Manager early in the workflow
  • Manage various deadlines for files including due dates, client requests, bank reporting and tax filing requirements
  • Follow up with clients as needed to obtain year end information as well as provide tax estimates to clients prior to tax payment deadlines
  • Proactively communicate with Managers/Partners and other applicable Firm Team members on client engagements and/or related issues including following up on unanswered inquiries or actions until completed

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business/Accounting or relevant subject

Experience

  • Minimum of 2+ years experience in a similar public accounting role

Compensation

  • Commensurate with experience; Expected hiring range of $60,000-$70,000

Qualifications

  • Strong technical knowledge and experience with complex accounting and compliance, including an in-depth understanding of Canadian accounting matters
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of tax concepts and government regulations, including HST/GST, payroll, and corporate tax basic schedules
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external clients
  • Contribute to team success and participate in a collaborative work environment
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to make sound business recommendations
  • Demonstrated accountability and ownership of workflow
  • Demonstrated high technical ability and quality of work, compliance with the Firm’s policies and procedures, and professional ethics and integrity
  • Proficient in MS Office, and accounting software (e.g. CaseWare, TaxPrep, CCH iFirm, etc.)
  • Ability to work under pressure and multitask, while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, continuous learning and working towards a professional designation

  • Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check is a requirement of this position
  • Must be legally qualified to work in Canada
  • Must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License and vehicle
