4Dcell
About the role
About 4Dcell
Join 4Dcell and become part of a pioneering French biotech on a mission to transform drug discovery and toxicology. We’re engineers and biologists united by a single goal: to replace animal testing with intelligent, in vitro “organ-in-a-well” models that deliver unprecedented predictive power to drive tomorrow’s therapies.
4Dcell has developed two flagship solutions: the SmartHeart™ Platform, which recreates human ventricular tissue in a standard 96-well plate, and the first-in-class SmartSphero™ Technology, enabling the generation of a wide range of organoids.
You’ll collaborate with leading biophysicists, engineers, and biologists to tackle the toughest health challenges, from heart failure and immuno-oncology to pancreas and renal diseases. We combine ambition with a supportive, curiosity-driven culture.
Why intern with us?
- Responsibility to structure and lead your own projects
- Hands-on exposure to game-changing technologies
- Apply marketing skills on a new, growing, exciting and revolutionary market
- A team that values collaboration, growth, and fun

- The opportunity to navigate both a commercial start-up environment and an R&D scientific setting
- Close collaboration with experts in technology, marketing, sales, application science and operations
- Step into a role where your work accelerates drug discovery, improves patient outcomes, and builds a more ethical pharmaceutical future.
Context
Within our R&D team, you will work hands-on with experimental protocols to characterize cardiac pathologies and cardiac cell line maturation.
Main Responsibilities
Executing Design of Experiments (DoE)
- Prepare culture media and reagent dilutions
- Seed cells at defined densities according to the DoE matrix
- Record all steps and observations in the lab notebook (LIMS/Excel)
Data Processing & Analysis
- Import raw metrics (viability, marker expression, contractility)
- Create summary tables and plots to compare conditions
- Draft concise experimental summaries with actionable conclusions
3D Cell Culture
- Set up cardiac organoid (SmartHeart)
- Conduct immunofluorescent staining and confocal imaging
- qPCR analysis
Deliverables
- Complete experimental records (DoE details, raw results, observations)
- Analyzed datasets with clear graphical outputs
- Updated operational protocols
- Brief reports for each experimental campaign
Environment & Tools
- Equipment: CO₂ incubators, laminar-flow hoods, confocal microscope
- Software: LIMS/Excel, GraphPad Prism, R or basic Python notebooks

Candidate Profile
- Master’s student in Biology, Biotechnology or Biomedical Engineering
- Hands-on experience with cell culture (2D and/or 3D)
- Comfortable with data entry and analysis
- Experienced in Cellular & Molecular Biology
- Organized, experimentally rigorous and proactive
- Good technical English
It is a plus if the candidate has:
- Background in cardiac biology
- Proficiency in 3D cell models, organoids, or MPS (Microphysiological Systems)
- Knowledge of (cardiac) electrophysiology
Duration & Terms
- 6-month internship, starting September 2026
- Based in Montreuil
- Legal internship stipend + partial transport reimbursement
