Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) – Supervisory Statistician (GS‑1530‑15)

  • Degree: Must include 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, with at least 6 semester hours in statistics) and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, engineering, or social sciences (e.g., demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc.). Credit toward statistical course requirements may be given for courses where ≥50 % of content is statistical methods.

or

  • Combination of education and experience: Courses as described above plus appropriate experience or additional education. Experience must include a full range of professional statistical work such as sampling; collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data; and applying statistical techniques (central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, correlation, analysis of variance, tests of significance, etc.).

Specialized Experience

Applicants must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS‑14). The specialized experience includes:

  • Developing and/or applying special techniques, formulas, or assumptions to resolve novel or unresolved problems associated with the statistical analysis of occupational safety and health data.
  • Independently conducting analytical research and/or performing statistical analyses in support of strategic decision‑making by OSHA senior leadership.
  • Formulating and/or providing technical guidance on occupational safety and health data and data systems, performance measurement and strategic planning, or data‑related policy initiatives.

Education

  • Any applicant falsely claiming an academic degree from an accredited school will be subject to actions ranging from disqualification from federal employment to removal from federal service.
  • If education was completed at a foreign college or university, the applicant must demonstrate comparability to education received at accredited U.S. institutions and to the minimum coursework requirements for this position.
