System Test Engineer

HCLTech is looking for a highly talented and self-motivated System Test Engineer to join it in advancing the technological world through innovation and creativity.

Key Responsibilities

Unix / Terminal Testing & Scripting

• Perform Unix-based test execution, command-line validation, and system-level debugging in a lab environment.
• Develop and maintain shell scripts for automation, test control, and log extraction.
• Manage terminal-based workflows for device bring-up, data collection, and test configuration.

Environmental & Thermal Testing

• Set up and operate environmental chambers for temperature, humidity, and stress testing.
• Install and validate thermocouple placement on devices under test (DUTs) following lab best practices.
• Monitor real-time environmental test data, analyze results, and document observations.

Fixture Setup & Mechanical Lab Work

• Assemble, modify, and maintain test fixtures for hardware validation.
• Perform light mechanical tasks including drilling, sanding, cutting, and Dremel-based adjustments.
• Conduct soldering rework for connectors, sensors, and minor PCB-level modifications.
• Ensure safe and proper use of lab tools, mechanical equipment, and measurement instruments.

Python Scripting & Lab Automation

• Create Python scripts to automate test sequences, control DAQ hardware, and collect sensor data.
• Develop logging systems, file parsers, and data visualization helpers for test reports.
• Integrate Python scripts with environmental chambers, DAQ modules, and other lab equipment.
• Maintain version-controlled scripts and ensure clean documentation of automation workflows.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in Unix/terminal commands and scripting.
• Experience with environmental chambers and thermocouple instrumentation.
• Hands-on mechanical aptitude using tools like drills, Dremel, and soldering stations.
• Intermediate to advanced Python scripting for automation and data workflows.
• Familiarity with DAQ systems, sensors, and basic electronics troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in hardware validation, reliability testing, or lab engineering.
• Knowledge of thermal measurement techniques and data logging.
• Experience integrating Python with lab instruments (SCPI, serial communication, APIs).

Compensation and Benefits

A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their work location, skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to company policies. In addition, this role is eligible for the following benefits subject to company policies: medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, life, accidental death & dismemberment, and disability insurance; employee assistance program; 401(k) retirement plan; 10 days of paid time off per year (some positions are eligible for need-based leave with no designated number of leave days per year); and 10 paid holidays per year.
